301 Redirect & Backlinks Question.

So about 3 months ago I redirected one of my old websites to a new website. It saw an increase in the serps from the 301 redirect, but should I change all the backlinks from the old site to point to the new site or was I right to leave them pointing to the old site?

    Hi NightFox. If you'll leave the backlinks pointing to the old site then the your serp will just increase in the old site. I think it would be best if you'll transfer the links to the new site's URL.

      Sorry webtrafficpros, that's totally wrong. A 301 redirect is like a detour sign for backlinks. That's the whole purpose of the 301 redirect. Like Mike said above, the links that were pointing to your old site will now be counted to the site that you're 301-ing it to. If a backlink is pointing to site A, but site A is 301-ing to site B, site B will get the juice from that backlink.

    301 redirect is permanent redirect. Which is used to redirect a web page to another web page permanently.

      As you said that due to 301 redirection there is increase in the serp, means all backlinks pointing to old site redirected to new site. So, there is no need to change the old site link from the other sites link pages.

    Redirect all links to your old site to an appropriate page on your new site. That way you pass all the juice and traffic to the relavent place giving your new site the maximum boost.

    301 redirect is the most effective as well as Search Engine method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement as well as it should preserve their search engine rankings for that particular page.

    301 is fine, you BLs will be redirected to you new site. However, the link juice will not be transferred 100% to the new site, so if you can make your BLs point to your new website, this will be even better. If not, no worries, 301 is the right way to do.
