I thought I'd gotten my site on Google page one, but it was only on my computer's results. Other people I asked to look couldn't find it. Does this mean that Google, knowing I've been to my own site many times, sees it as a site I like and gives me a unique result? If so, how can you check page rank for a site you're trying to do SEO on?

    Yes it does. Google tries to adapt search results for users. As said above, Ctrl + F5 to clear your cache, and logout from your Google Account !

    Normally it happens when you are signed in with your gmail account associated with the website. so first signed out then see the results again.

    Yeah i totally agree with whats been said above...you need to make sure you are logged out of your Google account, and you need to clear all your internet cache..

    You can also use another browser...a secondary browser which you do NOT normally use...

    But as said above, the best way to check your ranking is to use a dedicated tool..

    Personally i use Market Samurai to track my rankings...

    you can also use the seobook firefox plugin which works nicely:

    Code:

    What you are seeing is personalized search results... There are many local factors that may influence you rankings,
    For the Searching - you can make sure you always check the same way...
    * Logged out of G Accounts
    * Opted out of Personal Search
    * Use the same computer
    * Use the same browser
    * Use the same Search page
    * Use the same Search settings

    That should help reduce the likelyhood of "bias" interfering

    Yes, you can use CCleaner for clearing everything. But for your alternative, you can clear all your history and caches to see unique results.

    Log into your Google account and pause + delete webhistory. This will remove all personalized results as long as you are logged in. It's easier than clearing your cache over and over again.
