The more money I make, The lazier I get..

Has this ever happened to any of you? for about 2 months I worked my butt off...

Keyword research, I wrote all my content, did all my on-page SEO, and off my SEO.. I did everything.

Now that I'm making some good coin, I've gotten so lazy.

At first I decided to outsource my content writing, now I've hired a VA to post my content, and do whatever else I need them to..

All I'm doing myself right now is the off-page SEO, but this is the type of stuff I enjoy so I'm sure I'll keep doing it.

I think I'm at the point where I don't want to make more money because if goog does ever decide to slap all my websites, I'll be set up with a huge disappointment, and right now I can make a good living from where I'm at.

The only thing I'm working on right now is a huge authority site, but it's all being done for me even.. I'll probably spend 2-3 hours/day only on backlinking for it.

Has this ever happened to any of you guys? Just curious over here..

Cheers,

Jeremy

Not really. I have a giant document filled with other ideas, keywords, domain names that were available at the time. Pretty much, when I get project where it needs to be I simply move on to the next one.

Right now I have this idea of utilizing a free traffic source to send visitors to a single page website with the hope of making affiliate commissions. Still in the preliminary stages, but that is essentially my next project.

However, I still write content for my other sites at least once a week, in addition to the SEO work I do for the company I work for.

It's easy to stay busy in my opinion. Maybe a big dose of motivation is all you need!

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I guess it depends on what sort of responsibilities you have. If you have a family and kids to take care of then the motivation will be there to persevere. On the other hand: if you single, no kids and not many financial responsibilites then you can slack if you want to and not feel guilty about it.

As for me: I fall in the second group, so yeah, there are days when I do absolutely nothing

I'm 18 years old, just graduated high school. Just moved out.

Total expenses a month are probably around 1,000. I'm gonna make probably around 5,000..

I think I need to get into CPA/Affiliate stuff rather than adsense.

i wouldnt say you are getting lazy, you are just working smarter. When i first started adsense i wrote all my own content. but when you have money why bother taking out the time to write a boring article when you can have someone else do it for you for cheaper. Say you value your time at 30 dollars an hour. Is it really worth your time to write to articles in the time when you can pay 5 dollars for it and have it be done with.

I do not think i will ever write an article on a topic that i have no interest for. Its not making the best use of your time.

As far as being scared to make more sites , i would say thats a bad idea. If you are worried about an account being banned make more sites on a new account and new hosting, etc. Then register a LLC and keep it all seperate

There is more money to make in cpa/affiliate, tons more. You should build more sites that will make you an extra two or three thousand bucks per month then go ahead and start some affiliate stuff and PPC. For 18 you are doing pretty well when you compare yourself to the average person your age. But do not settle now. $5000 a month is pretty cool but what is even cooler is $50,000 per month

Building Adsense sites does get a little boring after a while, even the money isn't a motivation at times (that's why outsourcing is essential). It's great that you looking to diversify! Like you my biggest fear is getting slapped by G and waking up one morning with nothing and that is why I am becoming a reseller for a physical product and building an ecommerce site to promote that product.

I am also playing around with a few Amazon review sites that are doing really well. You should look to add a few affiliate products on your Adsense sites - from my experience it does not affect your Adsense income and you will get the odd sale as well which adds up.

But outsourcing is key and you are now transitioning from a worker to an employer. The possibilites are endless now that you have a solid foundation - you are only limited by your own creativity.

Yeah i am in the same boat, and we are making money the same way. July was a write-off for me, biking, golfing, boating, fishing, camping, going to the beach etc. Tried to put in a few hours a day if I was at my house.

I too am working on authority sites, also outsourcing basically everything. It feels wrong to make so much and do so little, I still haven't gotten used to it.

Hmmm interesting. Never happened to me.. the more money I make the more money I want to make and that results in me working more like a dog.

    Just saying.

I agree with futuremills, you're not really slacking or getting lazy but rather investing resources to handle your time more efficiently.

If we're really talking "slacking off" then yes, I've faced similar things like you before. Although, I'm not making a lot of money with online activities talked about on this forum, I have made money with other things. A couple of times I've slacked off to a point where I quit doing those activities all together. For me the reasons were:
    a) I started the activity not to make money but to learn how to do it. Once I knew how to do it, there was no incentive left for me to put my time in it.
    b) I could make 5k doing something or I could invest more time and effort in it to earn twice, thrice or more. But if I would invest more time and effort, I would lose free time to pursue other interests or just "hang out". And also, for me there is almost no reason that I have to always earn more when I'm at a point where I can sustain myself and then some.

I think this last part just depends on the individual and I'm sure it's partially a cultural thing as well. That, and age.

It sounds like you've really begun to understand how to work smarter and not harder.

When I started making money online and my hours started decreasing I began filling my time with "busy" work as I justified that I should be working more hours now that my income was going up.

I've learned to outsource intelligently and learned the true value of hiring amazing people. I currently have several writers/managers that complete run a few side projects without much input from me.

The point of outsourcing is so that you can put your current business models on autopilot. Then you can move on and build more or sit back and reap the rewards. If you are focusing only on Adsense at the moment, you should probably look into building up other income streams just in case Google decides to can your sites or account in the future. It's better to be earning from several income streams than just one large one.

Does anyone else think that maybe buying websites might be a good way to diversify? I've been looking at Flippa rather more these last few weeks and I'm thinking that for something that isn't adsense but is available for 10x to 12x its monthly income... should be a good buy.

I also do offline marketing but aside from meeting clients once in a while, the work is much lesser as you're just setting up Facebook and Adwords campaigns.

Flippa can be a good place to buy a site but you need to do your homework hard. Research the heck out of the site you want to buy. Last thing you want is to get scammed out of thousands.
If your making good money its good to buy sites due to the fact that you can use it as a tax right off for that year

That has not happened to me. But, I think the reason is because you have enough to pay for other services that may help you get the job done. If you can afford to pay some money on services that can save you time, why spending countless hours behind a computer doing it yourself?

I've found that taking a break from your day to day online marketing work can give you a whole new perspective on things.

I spent the first 2 years working on so many projects without success. It wasn't until I took a step back and did more analysis and research that I started seeing some success.

The most important thing I've learned is that the best way to see what ranks.. what works... and what makes money... is to analyze a website that is already successful. Analyze traffic, analyze backlinks and see what terms your competition has been working on to get on top. Then replicate and do it better!

    its a cycle.

As you get more VAs, youll get lazier

then youll snap back into reality once something goes wrong

then you will start working again as you will want more

then youll get lazy after you hit a milestone

then youll....blah blah blah. Its an IM cycle

Isn't this the dream? Passive income?

Though a wise man once said, long long ago, "Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless." - it is easy to get into that trap. Not so long ago I DREAMED of making a few hundred bucks a month. But once I got to that point, you think I was satisfied with that?! Well, just a few thou a month, then I will be happy... And so it goes on. So resting on your laurels isn't so bad, though if you really have got to that point, then you have the opportunity to do something else - work for charity, go out and help people, I dunno..! No need to lie around the house all day, anyway!
