Just because MS did not "show many lontail keywords" for your niche does not necessarily mean there was something wrong with Samurai. You will also need to discover some on your own and then research them using that tool to check the competition, etc. I use Market Samurai to check many of the keyowrds that I myself come up with. I sit and think of all the possible ways a person might search for a product or service I am considering promoting. Tools are great, but we all need to be interactive with these tools to get the most out of them.

This is so true. When it comes to keyword research you have got to think as a marketer and also as a buyer. Put yourself in the shoes of a buyer looking to buy a product or service in answer to a problem. How would you search for a solution to your problem in the search engines?

I use MS, you just have to make sure you adjust the setting to get what you want. Spend a little time watching the videos and its easy to figure out how to adjust it to get the results you want.

The GAKT, in regards to keyword suggestions, is horrible, especially if you're looking for long tailed keywords.

Also, as others have said, check your Analytics to discover new phrases that people are finding your site for and see if they're worth targeting/enhancing.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Scrapebox. It searches more than just Google for suggestions. It gets suggestions from YouTube, Amazon, Bing, Ask, Yahoo Shopping, etc. Once it's finished generating suggestions for your main keyword you can take the results and get suggestions for ALL of them.

1 keyword literally turns into thousands in less than 5 minutes.

You can then plug these into Market Samurai to get their search counts & competition.

Really? I find that hard to believe, long tail keywords are simply keywords with small amounts of traffic.

I have been using Niche Finder and it has been a very helpful tool. I'm combining that with some other tools and methods to really narrow things down for the best options.

I think market samurai is not so bad at all. Your niche may not have huge long tail keywords. And a tool will never do all at a time. You have to use some combination for best result. You may use Adword Key tool for further research. This really a good and reliable tool for keyword research.

  • Only Microsoft and Google have enough data to compile truly useful lists. The problem with keyword tools is they are only as good as the data they pull from. Google does NOT want you to have this information unless you are willing to spend. They have changed what they make available to 3rd party keyword tools.

If you want to get some good insights you need to dig into the keywords being used by popular ranking sites in your niche. You reverse engineer what they are doing to find your "root" keywords then you dig from there. The problem is there is not going to be a magic indicator that says... just use these keywords.

You have to figure that out on your own.

The best way to determine long tail keywords is to use services like Wiki Answers. In services like these people post questions like "How do I get my site to number one in Google?". I would target that and go myblog.co.m/how-do-i-get-my-site-to-number-one-in-google.

There is no doubt that Marketing Samurai is the best. Only thing what is bad about is the platform it has been built on, makes things so slow.
