First of all for your keyword, where are you getting the 500 searches per day from? The big question is, are you using Exact Phrase match or Broad?. Next where are you getting the 5000 competitors from? Is it the results you see at the top of the page on a Google search? Do you see any sponsored ads at the top or to the right?

If the keyword does in fact have 500 "Exact Phrase" matched searches per day, 15000/mo, and there are only 5000 results, then yes that is very very good. I suspect however that the 500/day is Broad, I may be wrong...

Back on point, for quick research I look for 3000/mo exact phrase matched keywords, with 500,000 or less results on a Google search while noting the sponsored ad, either the lack of them or a ton of them. From there I research deeper before I launch a campaign.

Another point, unless it is something so new that the marketers have yet to sponsor ads on, I want to see some sponsored ads. Why? Because that is an indicator that there is money to be made,, if there are none,,,well either I lucked out or there is no money to be made,,, usually my second point is the case.

You need to improve. Base your decisions on your sales not just the searches or traffic.
