Questions About Adsense Sites

So I've just started building sites with the intent to generate income with Adsense. I'm about to the point where each site is generating a dollar a day, but I hear about these sites that are making $10, $20, $100 a day or more.

I've been doing a lot of reading about Adsense and one of the things I've read is that when you're choosing your domain name or a keyword for an article, you want to check the CPC of that keyword. The higher the CPC the higher paying the ads that are displayed on your site. Is this true?

If I'm trying to choose a domain name for an adsense site is it more important that that keyword has a high CPC and lower monthly views or do I still want high monthly views and low competition with little regard for CPC?

I've found some domain names with crazy high CPC (around $70) but monthly views are miniscule. Just wondering what is more important when building adsense focused sites.

I hope my question makes sense. Any help is appreciated!

Jesse

Iv just recently got into the adsense game myself. The way I see its best to strike a balance. Higher traffic with low CPC is the same as low traffic with a high CPC. For example if keyword with an average CPC of $2 and you could generate 10 clicks a day is the same as a keyword with an average CPC of $0.20 and generating a 100 clicks per day.

What iv seen as best is to find a keyword with a high CPC, around 1000 exact views per month. I then check out the top 10 results for that keyword and determine if I can get my site ranked in the top 10. Then I check for an exact match domain. If it all checks out I proceed to target that keyword.

This is just in my experience I expect a seasoned adsenser (is that a word? Sod it im using it!) can give you much better advice.

It doesn't matter how high the payout is for a click if no one is clicking your ads. So, what you want to be doing is finding a keyword with low competition, but decent volume. You also want to manage which ads are showing because some are extremely low paying. You want to nix those ads because they aren't getting you hardly any money.

That's the mistake of many new people. They think if they
build it, google will pay. it does not work that way. Your
site will not get high paying ads right off the bat.

Now some niches are better, and you will start out at a decent
click, but not the pie-in-the-sky CPC that fantasies are made of.

That's because the content network is much cheaper, and the
big spenders on not going to target your site just because.

If your traffic and clicks are not quality, your ad prices will
plummet. If your traffic rocks, and they buy, your CPC will
      go up.

But keep in mind adwords rewards users who get the best clicks
      with a lower price.

The niche does not really matter. You can make money, and a
good amount, no matter what the niche. That's a myth as well.
That somehow you need a high paying niche. Problem is,
google decides what your true ad niche is, not you.

        Paul,

thanks for the advice. so to be clear, the amount you're paid when a visitor clicks on an adsense ad on your site is determined by the number of clicks that site gets per impressions and whether or not the people who click those ads actually buy from the advertiser?

That contributes to what amounts to a "quality score." You get that over time.
A new site does not really have anything to go by, so you get the leftover bidders.

The CPC is ultimately determined by the open auction. Who has the highest
adwords QS, and who is bidding more. When you see a $70 click, it really can
amount to as little as $5 on the content network, and maybe much less on a
new site. Adwords users can target and bid on specific sites. THAT is what
will determine if you get more or less for a click.

The ratio of clicks to clicks that buy will add or detract from the price.

Google also tells you up front, that if your traffic sucks and the clicks are
not good, they will "smart price" your site, giving people a much lower price
to get on it. They want to pump up the ROI. Problem is, a lot of advertisers
will flee from your site, leaving just the bottom of the barrel. Hence the
          threads on 1 cent clicks

The truth is, a lot of people are lucky to get between .25 and .50 a click.

But they see a $70 price somewhere and think google is ripping them off.
When in fact, they are the ones ripping off advertisers with crappy traffic.

IMHO, google is more apt to do a chargeback on higher paying clicks.

From what I've seen, the high paying clicks are about one tenth on the content
network for the highest ads on average sites. A $70 CPC would no higher
than $7. But then, your take is a little less than $4. Pump up your site
and you could get more than $7. Have it suck, and you'll do good to get 50 cents,
and end up with 34 cents as your take.

Good stuff Paul, thanks a ton, exactly what I was looking for. Make quality sites and provide quality information. Find keywords that generate traffic that is looking and willing to buy. Be patient. Sounds like a plan, again thank you!

If the CPC of a keyword doesn't matter then what is that information used for in the google adwords keyword tool?
