basically CTR is most likely nothing to do with other sites. Perhaps your traffic are starting to have banner blindness... try to change the text link color, ad size, location and etc. It will help on CTR again =D

For me, august is always a terrible month for any kind of profit. I'm not sure if that's just my niches, or what, but it's been a theme over the last three years for me, and it was that way in my ebay business back in the day as well.

Yeah, this month has been really slow compared to last month or earlier months. I suspect that it is because of summer vacation being almost over and students (and adults too) getting in there last good times off the internet, before getting back to the same old grind in September.

Jenny, do you use the template on all your blogs like the one in your signature ? Is that how you get 3 to 4 CTR ? I get about 1.5 CTR every month on my blogs.

Where did you get that template ? Thanks....

Mine has been steady, and actually I've been seeing a boost since HubPages moved me to a sub-domain... all my articles started ranking better literally over night, causing me to get more clicks.

    It's probably just your niche.

Mine is pretty steady (averaged over time at around 5%)
However I do have dips down to as low as 1% on some days.

I guess it just depends on the traffic and intent.

CTR can depend on a lot of factors like the specific niche, traffic source, and site design/layout just to name a few of the big ones.

I have one site that is not designed for adsense and is primarily monetized a different way that has less than .1% CTR as well as a different site in a completely different niche that is over 10%. Plus others anywhere inbetween.

As far as August being worse than July - most of my sites are actually doing better in both CTR and total number of visits.

Mine has been steady across all sites - earnings have went up significantly (primarily due to the addition of a couple new sites I'm working on). My average CTR across all of my sites is anywhere from 12 to 18 percent, though.

Like others have said, your niche is definitely one of those determining CTR factors. Try to put together quality content that will help trigger relevant ads, which can help your CTR shoot up considerably.

Mine is holding steady. Do you have the option for personalized ads turned on or off? I have very, very specific niches, so I turned them off, and my CTR went up a couple of points a couple of months ago.

Ask yourself how specific your niches are, and maybe give that a try.

What on earth does niche have to do with CTR?

I guess nobody paid any attention to the part about
        it dropping this month...

People don't suddenly have ad blindness if your site has been
        rolling along.

CTR will naturally fluctuate as your traffic and ads fluctuate.

I am not worried about a drop in CTR as I am in a drop in money.

Many days where I get a bump in traffic, the CTR drops like a rock,
but the money stays the same.

If I see a couple of days where the money has dropped, I immediately
jump on the sites and see what kinds of new ads I need to blast away
using the competitive ad filter. That's your first line of defense.

I guarantee that if you take some of the advice above, and start
monkeying with the site colors, ad colors, text color, etc., you are
going to be sorry and then spend time getting back to what it was.

Your site was "successful" last month. So, why muck that up?

Trust me. I've been there, done that. A mistake many people make
one time. That is, it should be one time.

You should concentrate on targeted ads and traffic. Always.

Google tells you flat out not to go gaga over a change in CTR.
        It happens. It's normal.
