for some reason after the panda update all my numbers one spots for all my sites vanished overnight. My main site which had been number one for about 3 months and 2-4 for over a year suddenly moved to the bottom of page one and then two and now its been on page 10 since then. After the update I stopped building links for a while because everytime I did it seemed to push it off the results but when it came back it came back worse. This month i've come back to it and started building steady links But 20 days later i get it jump to 500 back to 100 and so forth.

at the same time ive been targeting one of my other sites and nothing seems to be touching them. I used to build just forum profile links but now i've been writing articles and posting them on web 2.0 sites and getting links to them and bookmarking etc..

For my main keyword some of the sites on the first page have like 15 incoming links. I have around 6k.

While my sites are still indexed. I'm wondering if google has put some sort of penality on my domain or server IP.

I'm really not sure how to move forward, i left my job back in march to focus on my business becaue it had gone so well 8 months prior. If I cant turn things around in the next few months it looks like I'm back in the job queue.

Any advise from people who have had similar issues are welcome.

After panda update now what matters is quality content on the website, constant updates there and addition of content.
I'd suggest check Google Analytics for the weak-spots in your homepage and re-check how your site is optimized (on-site optimization).

      Hi Netboom,

It is hard to say for sure without having more specific detail, but my best guess would be that either your website has low quality content or you have been building backlinks using low quality content. This is most likely true because low quality content was precisely what the Panda update targeted. If it wasn't your low quality content, then it wasn't Panda.

What, if anything, have you done to check for and fix content quality issues?

Google has no way to determine the quality of a web pages content.

The best Google can do is look at the quality of related keywords flowing in/out of a web page, which would include anchor-text for external/internal backlinks, on-page text, page titles, <h1> tags, etc...

      Hi yukon,

That is an odd thing to post on this forum seeing how it has been about 6 months since the first in a series of major algorithm updates that specifically looks at the quality of web page content.

Could you elaborate on how you came to such a conclusion? Perhaps you are confusing the term "quality" with "value" or "usefulness" which are much more subjective in nature.

I wonder what incentive does Google have to use a fair and consistent way of ranking websites.

To me the opposite is actually true.

They actually have more incentive to randomize the ranking system and change the standards often. Reason being not being able to consistently get a site to top ranking will probably encourage more people to pay Google for ads.

    Right?

Re do all your On site SEO, since you might have already done this, it might not take a long time and you will be done with it in no time. Make sure that you leave nothing out this
time and you pay special attention to all your missing links and ends. Then once all this is done, build quality links from reputable related websites with high PR. Again recheck your
position after doing this. Hopefully you will be placed much higher.
