Does it matter the order your keywords are in if you try to use them in your URL?

For example....

If I want to rank for the term sweet red wine, but www sweet - red - wine com, would using the URL www red - sweet - wine com with the words switched around have the same SEO impact? Does it matter if the keywords are reversed?

thanks!

It wouldn' t matter a lot but if the keywords are in the same order there is no harm in that and your site would then also show if someone did an exact keyword match search.

Using what keyword you really are targeting would be better to use on your domain if that is what you plan. If you search on google keyword suggestion tool, keywords that are just reversed in word order have the same searches and competition. Ex. health insurance and insurance health are just the same.

I'm finding if, using your example, I optimize for "sweet red wine", and search on Google for "red sweet wine" the difference can be major. Sometimes I'm in position 8 for one and position 10 for the inverted. But sometimes I can search the inverted and the difference can be as much as page 2 compared to page 8. So yes I'm finding the order of the keyword does matter. However it's how you optimize your site. Your keywords are in your domain name so just repeat the order of the words you wish to rank for several times in your content. You will still rank for the inverted but the one you repeat exactly the most for will rank better.

Yes, it matters, you get different results in google for different keywod orders, and you only get the EMD bonus for exactly the emd.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the keyword order. If you are trying to match a specific phrase in an online search then yes, order does matter. Rather, if you are just trying to find a combination of words that are popular then it does not matter as much. For example, if you are trying to build a website about the phrase "buy cheap umbrellas" and you used:

    buycheapumbrellas.com

then you will see some direct traffic for that phrase. If that URL was taken and you used:

    buyumbrellascheap.com

you will still see some traffic flowing in for those keywords, but you might be ranked below "buycheapumbrellas.com" initially.

The order of your keywords in your domain name will have no effect on your traffic unless a potential visitor sees it and thinks it is awkward and passes it up which is unlikely. Your on page seo and your seo expertise will determine what traffic you get. The competition for those keywords will also make a significant difference in your success as well as your ability to trump any competition.
