How do you go about finding niche keywords?

I dabbled with small niche sites a year or so ago, did some other stuff, and now I really want to get back in it, mainly because I like it, even though there's not as much money as in affiliates or etc.

I set up a site quite nicely, and now want to start more, but the problem is I'm having a really hard time finding some right keywords. Wonderwheel is no longer available and google related searches isn't as helpful. How do you go about finding the right keywords ? Are there any examples or case studies available ?

I use Google keyword tool to make research for any niche i want to get into. If you can't find a good number of keywords generating a good number of searches each and every month, then you don't have a profitable niche.

Market samurai is a great tool to use in finding keywords for your niche except that its a paid service.

Simply, pick the name of your niche and enter it into google search space and see.

I agree that the Google keyword tool is a place to start. In addition to doing this I think you need to use a good keyword tool like Market Samurai to discover what to sell. To me keyword research and product selection are bound together with superglue. I already know my keywords when I decide on a product or service to market.

I am also using google keyword tool in finding niche keywords. But instead of checking the keywords one by one in the box, I list down at least 10 closely related broad keywords and search it all at the same time. I notice that when I did this, the keyword tool returns rich variants of the mix of keywords from the list of keywords I queried. This is where I usually discover long tails with nice traffic flowing in but only has the least of competition.

We use Market Samurai. This is how I do it.

I have Google Keyword tool open, perform first search,

      Then I list by # of Local Searches, Once that is done;

I go through the list and check all of the good related terms.

The related terms I choose are for relatively high search volume and low competition.

      Then I go to NameCheap.com

I enter the exact search terms to see if the domain is available. This step is sooo important. If domain names are available for the search terms then it's great. But if not, and most are taken, then I know that other IM'ers are targeting the same keywords.

Once I have enough gems, I place them in Market Samurai to see the $$$$ is could potentially make. I then check on the competition, If there's plenty of Huge websites, like article directories, wikipedia, ezine, how to's etc. I'm good, this implies that they are not laser targeting as I am going to, there's place in the top ten for me.

So, its pretty easy, low competition, no other Imer's, Large Websites not laser targeting keywords and I'm in that Niche.

I buy all domain names for the Niche, the .com, .net, .org, .info - in fact Namecheap right now gives you the .info for free when you register a name.

Then with onpage seo and limited backlinking. Natural, slow, but powerful. I make # 1, sometimes within a month. If not sooner.

If you want more info, give me a PM. The system works.

It's important to view the competition. Which is essential. And for monetization.

This has actually happened to me in the past. I choose a keyword from Google's keyword tool, bought the domain name, built the website.

Promoted it, got it to 1st place and then............made $4.57 in adsense, 1st month; 2.85 2nd month. It's on 1.57 right now.

Went back to Market Samurai.....did what I was supposed to do, (thorough analysis) found the daily worth of having the first page ranking for the keyword to be.......................yep, you guessed it 0

Never fast tracked anything again. I do things too fast.

I've even miss spelt domain names!!!!!

            www.stainlessteel.com......missed an s after stainles - - s

I'll not list the others. I still have some dignity. :p

Had I used Market samurai, I would have avoided a lot of mistakes in the past. Just take your time, make sure you find a good niche before committing because you will spend many hours and $ promoting it.

Download the Mozilla SEO plugins. You can check out a competitor in your niche's Keywords. Take some of these keywords are try to outrank them with hard work and more hard work.

Sometimes you need to do the RIGHT things rather then do the things fast...now you know where your mistakes is and you can go back the previous steps and start all over again...
