Ive looked through several google "dance" threads but most were pertaining to losing top position. Well, im in a different situation, my site is currently on page two pos #11 - 12 and yesterday it grabbed position #2 for a little, after a few hours it was gone again.

After researching around Ive ready that google is refreshing its www2 and www3 servers and you can expect this ranking soon. Anyone have experience or advice on this? We used to be able to check www2 and www3 but I tried yesterday with no luck.

I don't think that it means you'll definitely gain the position that you google danced too but it's a good indicator of where you may rank in the next few days, I had a page that was always #100th position or there abouts, suddenly it jumped to #50th give or take and then disappeared from the serps totally for a day, next day it returned to 100th again, then eventually it settled around the 50 mark, so yes what you're saying has some truth

Just keep a steady link building to it and you will do fine.

Often my sites will rank up real fast, then drop back to a lower position, sometimes even a page or two back, and then over the next week or two will bounce to the front page, back to page 2, up on the front page, down a few spots, back up a few spots, and usually settle somewhere in the middle of where it was bouncing between.

It happens, no worries. Don't do anything crazy about it just keep a steady link building flow to it and you will rank it up nicely.

Google often moves sites up and down the SERP, most ppl believe this is to "test" sites quality, i.e. see what the bounce rates etc are, however, this normally lasts a lort more than a few hours, so I guess that was not the case here

Maybe it has something to do with the personalized searches. Make sure that to log out first your account in Google and clean your histories and caches.

This is what is happening to my client also. He was on the first page for a few months and then a few days ago, nowhere to be found. And then the following day, on the 12th page and then bounces to 15th page.. it keeps on disappearing and reappearing on different pages.

I just hope this will soon settle and goes back to its original position soon. This has been making both my client (but most especially me.. ) very nervous.

But at least i know this has really been happening to some others.

If you think that your site has what it takes to get to the spot then Google might be testing its position there, if a decent number of users visit the site you can expect a fall in the rankings. If the users still click on your site then rankings will again rise as Google will have confirmed that your site is worth the high position. This is exactly what happened to one of my sites and I thought I might share my experience with you.

I think that in your case, what NickW has said probably holds out. Even though the page might not have your desired keyword, what it could have is related content and there is no time wasting in doing things the right way. If you have done everything according to the guidelines then there is a lesser chance that you will have to suffer.
