We all know that Google Analytics provides average time on site stats and bounce rates but how do you increase those statistics?

By increasing the average time on your site and bounce rate you website has a much higher chance of earning revenue through ads and conversions.

I have researched several ways to implement plug-ins to your site to increase bounce rates and retention. Here are some examples that tend to work;

Offer free products such as ebooks, gift cards, coupons, anything that people can sign up for an create an email list.

Implement customized content that suggests further readings within your content.

Add relevant images/videos

Implement interesting surveys or polls that visitors can easily fill out.

Place relevant links inbound links within your site.

What have you guys found that increases retention rates and bounce rates on your site?

    Those are some good steps, but, an Increased Bounce rate is a bad thing...You really want to stay below 60 if at all possible.

    Relevant content and keywords

    Well designed site and easy to use navigation

    Increased font size

    Good relevant internal links

    if you use wordpress something like "Yet another related post" is good.

    In the end though content is king, have good content that is easy to read and navigate and as you create more, your bounce rates should decrease by people finding and looking for more relevant content.

    As far as I know, bounce rate is not good. Higher bounce rate means people leave your website just when they landed on it. Though in some websites, bounce rate is helpful, but reducing the bounce rate and increasing the time when visitors stay on your website is way better to have conversion and traffic to your website.

    One trick to decrease bounce rate is to have your most important post different to your landing post so they click through more often then not

    To increase the time on the site and to decrease the bounce rate are related. If you work on one, you are also working on the other as well. To increase the time the users spend on your site you would have to make the site more user friendly, use of proper content for every page and make sure the site has a pleasent look and feel in terms of usability and GUI.Make the users occupied at the same time don't distract them from their main task.So if users spend more time on the site then they would, in effect, reduce the bounce rate as well.
