How many exact searches a month should a good keyword get?

I think I've found a good keyword, but I'm not sure how profitable it is. It gets over 10k exact searches a month according to Google. I obviously won't say what it is, but for this post I'll just pretend it's "how to create an ebook" (which is very similar to my keyword).

I was thinking of registering www [dot] howtocreateanebook101 [dot] com (the exact match is taken). Is 10k searches enough for this keyword? I have a particular Clickbank product to promote in mind. The competition seems pretty low.

Ta for any help!

Aim for 1,000 as a minimum.

That should put you in good speed!

Some keywords can be extremely profitable if they get a 100 searches per month. Some need many thousands of searches per month, and often produce no measurable results. There are more important factors involved, like commercial intent, competition, frame of mind of the people conducting these searches.

Exactly, you are better looking at whether is a "buying" keyword or not, instead of just measuring them by the exact searches.

"buy iPod 3G" definitely has more commercial intent than "free iPod", but I can assure you that the last one gets more searches

Look at the local monthly searches.

and make sure you check the competition on the first page.

Usually 10k search keywords have high competition already. The higher the competition the longer it will take you to see some cash.

If your new to IM. Go for a 720 local searches keyword and try to get to number 1. Sure might not make millions, but it will get you in the frame of mind of scaling, rinsing and repeating.

    Good luck

This depends on the keyword. If it's a local keyword that you are targeting, then anything 1,000+ is good. But Juanie455 has a valid point to.

I have some local keyword domains using keywords that get zero searches according to the GKT, yet get a steady flow of traffic earning me some passive income.
