ok... i'm looking at my competition using market samurai.

here's a break down number 1's backlinks.... they only have 1 pr 4.

4 pr 3

27 pr 2

54 pr 1

740 pr 0

so... do i just need to get a back link service that provides a couple of pr 4's, 5's and above to topple these guys?

is it that simple?

It could be that simple but how relavent are the links? Also how many links do you have? It is all well and good getting a few PR5+ but if you have no diversity or relavency you might have a problem.

With link building I rather have quality than quantity...especially when your trying to beat out the competition..

There are a ton of sites out there..that you can buy a high ranking PR links from.

So I would focus on really good content..add relevant videos..to my site...so that google will see that time spent on your site has increased..and therefore..will increase your rankings.

That's not how I would look at it. When doing your analysis don't just look at PR. If anything, you should be looking at page authority and domain authority which you can find here: Open Site Explorer. It gets updated more frequently, and will give you a really good idea as to the quality of the links coming into that site.

Also, evaluate the anchor text and link diversity. If they have a lot of links but not many are being optimized using that particular anchor text you're trying to rank for, then you won't have to necessarily build as many links. Similarly if you find that most of their links are from the same site, as opposed to multiple sites, then again you can most likely build less links provided your diversifying. You can check the number of linking root domains to that particular page in open site explorer as well.

You need to take all these things into consideration when evaluating your competitors links.
