I have used Link Diagnosis and SEO Spyglass in the past but Link Diagnosis doesn't seem to work anymore while I find SEO Spyglass too slow to load. Anyone have better recommendations?

Check out Yahoo site explorer which is one of the most popular backlink checker tools. Another variant is Open Site Explorer

yahoo site explorer was the best, but they are closing it down by end of year and it seems they are no longer adding new links to the tool. Open site explorer simply sucks. Never tried link diagnosis, and SEO spyglass uses a hybrid of yahoo and blekko.

The latest runners up for backlink discover is ahrefs and majestic SEO.

Both seem to have their pros and cons and both offer the most extensive database compared to all others. I am in the process of evaluating both at the moment. Majestic seems to have a database twice as large as ahrefs, but ahrefs data seems to be better in some cases.

Give them both and try and let us know what you think

Open site exporer sucks for backlinks, but it's good for checking the authority of your domain. Once you have a domain authority of over 50, you can start build spammy backlinks to it without worry of penalties : )

    • I still find Yahoo Site Explorer to be the best, but it only lets you view first 10 pages which is one downside.

I would suggest Yahoo Site Explorer for backlinks checker and also try other service tools like seocentro to determine your detailed data, but the success of the site does not rely on backlinks only.
