What Google says About Building Links

Is building links with BMR or any other linking service against Google TOS? I am a little confused about what "buying links" means. I noticed on some other threads people were talking about covering their foot steps when using Build My Rank.

I guess I'm not understand what Google says is ok to do. They don't want us to manipulate search engine ranking...so that means we can't build links at all using anchor text?! It would be very hard to get a first page ranking for a competitive keyword if we just waited for it to all happen naturally. I know someone who is on the front page for a keyword and she did no "anchor text" backlinking. That was also years ago she acheived this success. It seems much harder to rank without doing any form of manipulation...I don't get it.

Thoughts? Oh and my initial question is about Build My Rank. Anyone know?

Google want the content you create to be so good that people link to it naturally but like you said... without doing seo we would be waiting forever.

That would be a bummer for real! If no one know about your content in the first place you can't even get people to exit off of your site/page more less link to it.

Build your backlinks anyway at a modest pace. I do and will continue to.

There are instances where Google is perfectly fine with anchor text backlinks. Eg. Forum signatures and signature boxes on article sites. They just don't like it when you spam 10k blogs with a generic comment. And even that can help your rankings.

Just don't overdue it and you'll be fine.

Yea, I agree largely. The "manipulation" seems to be the point of competition. If you're not manipulating.. or doing SEO, your competitor might. It seems that as long as your content is quality, and you're not trying to seriously game the system, and you do everything in moderation, you're ok.

      Great answers from everyone else.

BMR is perfectly safe. Been using it for a long time and the results have been stellar.

Doesn't suck that we have to always abide by father Google's Laws or be in fear of them? Screw it, just stay away from the spam blasters and you'll be fine.
