After having run an SEO business since 1999 I have seen online businesses come and go.

From my observations, here are some of the main reasons why many businesses fail online:

1. Lack of focus. When setting up an online business, there was no research done to check for competition

2. No budget

3. No Sustainable value in the products/services

4. Trying to do everything quick without much analysis

5. Business owners who listen to anyone out there to give them advice and follow strategies that do not work in real LIFE

Yeah that and also people generally do not take there online business very seriously. For some reason, many people believe that an online business totally different to a regular "brick and mortar" business and the tend to loaf!

If you truly want to be successful online, take your business seriously. How much effort would you put in if you were opening a store in your city? A Lot! You would want to know if there is a market for what you want to sell, you would want to know where all your competitors are and how your offering compares to theirs, you would want to know EXACTLY how much its gona cost you...where you break even etc..etc..

And most importantly...you would expect it to be financed in some way or another. For some reason people that start online businesses seem to think they can skip all this??
