Keyword research help required

Hi, There are clearly various ways to obtain good keywords and I wondered if Im on the right track. One particular method in the "Fatcat Blueprint" is to use Broad Match as opposed to exact match in Google keyword tool. You are looking for 3 word keywords with a broad match of over 18k then allintitle less than 10k and then "keyword" less than 50k. This is followed up by a bit more in depth research but what i wanted to know is if this method would be effective or if anyone uses something similar? I know about the exact match search but will the above method produce the same results? Hope someone can help.

    Google keyword tool is vague at the best of times. I would not put much trust in it further than an idea of the search volumes for terms.

    Having said that I see no reason that your method would not produce results but it seems you might end up with a very niche term when all keywords are together and it must be hard to make sure they make sense and are related.

      As an example the keyword Im looking at has 49500 Global Monthly (Broad match), Allintitle 38 sites only and "keyword" is 4400, just typed plainly into Google it shows 1.7mil results. Should this grap my attention? The Approx CPC is £5.64 too if that helps.

    How I really find a good keyword is I think outside of the box.
    Sure you can use methods, but your BRAIN is the best, you could say, software to use.
    I keep saying over and over here on the forum.
    all you have to do for keywords is think.
    And nothing is too big, or too small. It's usually the irrational ideas, that make the most money.

      If you want your website to have longevity, then you need to forget search volumes and numbers (not altogether, hear me out). Go for the broad terms, go for the mid-tier terms and go for the long tails too.

      Firstly, brainstorm some ideas you think people would type. If your market is golf then these may be golf, golf equipment, golf lessons etc... Take a few of the top ranking sites for these terms and run them through the Google keyword tool. Once the tool spiders their sites, star the ones that are a) most relevant and b) have decent 'exact match' search volume.

      Once you're happy with your entire list of keywords, rank them by search volume, and begin to plan the structure of your site based on broadest terms/highest competition terms at the 1st level of your site, mid-tier/competition at 2nd level and the long tails will be supporting pages of them at the 3rd level.

      After you begin adding unique content you should start to see some visitors dribbling in (or if you're already an established site you can see increased visitors). Now, in Analytics have a look at the keyword variations people have been using to hit your new pages.

      These will give you new inspiration to begin brainstorming again and using what you come up with as seed keywords (to repeat the process) for even more additional pages.

      Stagger this work over time so that you're always updating your site with fresh stuff and Google will love you.

      As I said, if you're in it for the long run forget the numbers and just knuckle down. The rankings will come and so will the traffic!

    According to me Google adword tool is the best for keyword research. I always use this tool because this tool give us the relevant search for keywords.
