Is It True That It's Easier to Rank on #1 for Product Niche Keywords?

I read somewhere that it's easier to get to first page on Google using product based niche keywords rather than information based keywords.

For example, I can rank 'stainless steel refrigerator' easily as long as I have good content and some backlinks than I can with say 'ringing in the ears'

Can anyone verify that?

In some cases that will be true, but it really depends on the competition of the two niches you're comparing.

You could find a hard product based niche: "hdtv"
Or a low competition info based keyword: "how to catch blue butterflies in a fishing net"

The thing is, (another generalization that isn't always the case) once you get on that #1 spot, a lot of times the product keyword is also going to be targeted at people that are looking to buy that product - which is good news for you.

Yes. But be careful with exact product names. Some companies don't like this. Especially if you start outranking their sites using their product names.

Yes, I understand. Will go after product types domain and not brand domains

This is indeed true and not just a myth. People mostly search for a product they want to "buy" over the internet.

Definitely depends on the keyword in question. It would be inaccurate to generalize and conclude that it's easier to rank for any product keyword. What is usually said however is that your CTR and subsequent earnings with Adsense will be higher with product keywords than with 'informational' keywords.

No, there is no reason why such keywords should be easier to RANK, though they have the other benefits mentioned above. Maybe that advice referred to specific product keywords like Sony HDTV - they MAY be easier to rank for in the sense that there are many out there with no website built around them, but as mentioned, you have to be careful about trademarks, especially in the domain name.

Yes, generally product niche keywords are long tail specific kw's to begin with, so naturally they're easier to rank with, the more specific the keyword the more easier to rank.
