So I've got a new product, going to build up my sales page, and then launch on Adwords...WHAT do I need to put into my site and HOW should I do it to avoid the Google Slap from out of the gate?

ANY suggestions or pointers you have found that really work would be GREATLY appreciated!

If you are exercising pure white hat techniques then you have zero to worry about. Just let your links appear to natural in growth.

Yes, I'm all about white hat stuff. I just want some pointers on what to do and avoid. Example, make sure to have some articles posted, a privacy policy, make it keyword rich, etc.

    Any other suggestions?

        Dayne,

Build a web site that is silo (theme) structured and related to what you are promoting. Using about 3-4 silos works best. Stick about 4 articles in each theme with links back to the home page and between themes on every page.

Include about 3-4 outbound links to authprity sites in your industry. Alt Tag any of your images with teh keywords you are bidding on for better relevancy.

Include a contact us, about us, disclaimer, privacy policy and sitemap for the web site.

When you create your landing page, include relevant content and have a link back to your homepage.

Been doing this for years without problems from Google.

Thank you Gauher, what I am doing is going to create a sales letter type of page/site to promote one main product. How would I integrate the silo approach into that?

      Hi Dayne,

The "Google Slap" is a warning that you have quality score issues. For an overview on Landing page and Site Quality guidelines, see this link:

When using a single page sales letter there are a few things you need to be concerned about. As Gauher pointed out you need: contact us, privacy policy, TOS and Site map pages.

Sometimes a really long sales letter will fill the need of sufficient content. In many cases, you need to link to other sites to fill the gap. I usually build all these necessary links into a very small unobtrusive footer. This way it doesn't get in the way of your marketing efforts. This works great, by the way, on squeeze pages.

You really need to study Google's Webmaster Guidelines and realize every single word in there is very important. Google hired linguists, attorneys and scientist to pour over every word to decide if it was really necessary.

Here is a link that breaks it down nicely:

List of the Google webmaster guidelines

Ps. I forgot to mention the Keyword Analysis Page. This handy feature will tell you in general terms what is causing Quality Score issues on a keyword by keyword basis. Pay close attention to your keyword's quality score and use this tool when you have a problem.

Also learn how to setup and structure your campaigns so they improve your individual keyword quality scores. Most importantly small tightly focused ad groups, the smaller the better.

    EXCELLENT info Don, much appreciated!

    This is my plan...

Keep my main sales letter page with headline. But in the footer, have all the links to contact us, privacy policy, TOS and Site map pages...but also, create article pages (silo method) like Gauher mentioned above. This will have about 15 articles spread out into 4 categories. I will also submit about 10 articles on the subject to Ezinearticles for links back to my site. Lastly, I will get a few links from other sites that are related on the subject. This will make for a site around 20+ pages deep with content, but will look like a sales letter only.

I will wait a bit until I get some links back and more of my site gets indexed by Google before I start my Adwords campaign.
