Google backlinks disappeared

I went to my google webmaster tools today and all my backlinks that had been listed from my site (the one I was checking) are just not there.

Granted, it was a ridiculous amount of links to me from me, but still....

why would they just disappear? Is it likely a temporary thing?

The only thing I did differently yesterday was sign up for Majestic SEO and I know I had to add something to one of my files, but would that be enough to make something bad happen?

Thanks.

    Hey

Dont worry about it. This happened to me a few weeks ago. It will come back.

Man. I would piss myself if I woke up one morning and saw my backlinks had vanished. -_-

What do you mean..."links to me from me..." ?

One of the worst things you can do is link to yourself from websites you have on the same hosting account. Google will see this as trying to game the system. So if they took those links away because of that, then it was for good reason.

I mean the links within my own site that link to other pages within my own site.

I also looked again today and my webmaster tools used to show 334 referring domains and now it shows something like 221. Where would they suddenly have all gone? Is that normal for google to show them, then not show them? I haven't been watching the tools links very long, so for all I know this has happened lots of times.

Currently, I have about 4 or 5 different servers with sites. They aren't all on the same server and the sites have unique content.

I just don't know what's 'normal' as far as google showing links.

Don't worry, seems like Google just recently updated their system and did some spring cleaning.

In my webmaster tools I see the same from time to time, and a few days later everything is back to normal.

Fingers crossed. More seem to have disappeared and ones that should've shown up by now aren't. UGH. Frustration. Unending frustration.

None of the backlinks I've paid for are showing up on my google webmaster tools. I don't know if those .edu links I bought have been done yet but they aren't showing up. I've been posting articles to various places and bookmarking the ones that have been posted. I'd added links to some of the articles to my blogs to do some inter-linking and it doesn't seem to make any difference what I do. Nothing seems to be making the slightest difference.

AND, I spilled a full cup of coffee all over the carpet this morning. That makes everything worse. sigh.

it will be back and probably gone again.

I had the same experience as you. Few days later, it came back. And then a month later it went off. Probably it was some duplicate link issue because sometimes we do accidentally build similar links on same page which does not give any SEO advantage.
