So maybe someone can help me here. I am researching a particular keyword phrase in terms of competing websites for a project I may start. I brought up the top 10 sites in Market Samurai and I find this site: part5design in the top ten. MS shows that site with 1 year domain age, 5 indexed pages, 0 backlinks and a PR3 showing in top 10 search results along with domains 11 yrs old that have hundreds of indexed pages and links. How does it get that position and rank? I can see that the on-page SEO is fairly simple and specific so that's good, but I don't understand the pr3 and the standings with no links or age at all. Any insight on this? Am I missing something here? I realize its a comparitively easy keyword, but there are some strong sites there and that still doesn't explain the rank. Just wanted to get some thoughts. Correct me if this is a dumb question since I am still a fairly green marketer (and although I respect the environment that's not the kind of green I'm talking about lol). Thanks for and insight.

That makes sense. I didn't realize market samurai would work that way. I do know that it uses other sources to generate its results but I guess I was just so surprised that it didn't occur to me. I appreciate your advice and I figured it was something simple. I really asked because I wanted to know if I was missing out on some unconventional ranking strategy lol. Good news is that after a year or two of teaching myself seo I have managed to get sites positioned well with more competition than this so it looks like my project could work out with some effort. BTW I betcha that sites not generating a lot of business. Looks to me that the owner knows seo better than he/she does marketing a design firm. Just my take from the looks of the site.

I noticed that it had strong on-page as well and suspect that Yukon solved the backlink mystery with an earlier reply

I know a lot of businesses get high PR with just age.

You mean the domain age right? As opposed to the bsiness age? Wouldn't think serps could weight that and that's exactly why I had the question. The domain I posted here has only 1yr or less of age as opposed to others in the top 10 with up to 11yrs of age
