Accidently Ranking For EXTREMELY Profitable Keyword

Okay, so here's the deal. I built one of my first sites in a really competitive market, targeting long-tail variations for an extremely profitable keyword.

Not my keywords, but think Buy Car Insurance as the really profitable keyword, and the keywords I'm targeting are Buy Car Insurance For Young Dumb Kids.

Pretty basic, right...

Well here's the thing. I'm ranked 11th for Buy Car Insurance. So I've decided to put some direct effort into it. All good, except my site is an ugly little 30 page site that's designed for max adsense CTR.

Now it's in a highly profitable market, but there's no doubt I can make more with other methods.

I'm not dumb, going from 11 to 1 is going to be hella tough, but I'm curious.

So when I do start climbing the ladder, what do ya'll think I should do?

The term gets over 30,000 exact searches per month, and there is an absolute ton of money being spent in this market.

Wheeeeeeeeee!

ps - no, it's not personalized search or anything else goofy. The results are stable, verified by rank tracker, cute rank, and various other tools.

Congratulations. It is a nice feeling, isn't it?

Here is what is working for me - posting on blogs on high authority sites, or with high page rank on the page I am posting on.

Google is very touchy about this now - Do NOT hit your site with any spammy type backlinks or do too many at once. - I do less than 5 or 6 per page every few days, but because the backlinks are very high quality, I get some movement up the ranks.

If you outsource this type of thing be careful. I did outsource someone last month here on the WF for a site and found them to spam blogs, plus they doubled up because they were late.

The results was a number of spammy links all at once and Google knocked my site back to who knows where, not just that page but all pages I had first page listings with. It will come back some day. I just have to be patient and continue to link the high quality links.

You could also follow the top 10 sites backlinks in a backlink checker and post where they post.

First thing I would do is a fresh backup of the entire site, especially the page that is already ranking #11.

Next I would start building a series of new pages targeting the exact keyword that is ranking your existing page at #11 in the SERPs.

On all the new pages point internal links (with keyword anchor text) at the ranked page.

Last I would start building a handful of very high PR backlinks pointing at only the new keyword pages (not the old page), let the old page sit & don't change anything.

The new keyword pages will get you double listings in Google SERPs (most times) for your already ranked keyword. Also most double listings tend to move to page #1 in the SERPs (most of the time).

Yukon, that is an excellent suggestion, I will keep it in mind. Goolge likes seeing more than one page about the same keyword, from my experience as well.

I also have a few triple and quadruple listings for keywords just by bolding, I did not link.

I think this happened because Google is beginning to see the site as an authority site, which would be because of the high PR backlinks and quality info. Take time to do it right, and you are rewarded.

I use that trick on my own sites all the time, it works most times to give the main keyword page an extra boost in the SERPs. Plus chances are you'll get double listings pretty fast in the SERPs for the target keyword.

I've had double listings happen in less than 24 hours, after creating the series of supporting internal pages. Not personalized SERP results either.

A lot of folks underestimate the power of their own websites & proper internal linking.

I'm lazy, I always go after the easy seo first, lol.

That's a nice strategy and definitely will work. Because internal linking pass the link juice to your linked page as well and it moves up in search engines fast. That's why always have internal linking to each other articles then place back links to them.

That's a pretty interesting strategy. I might give it a shot and see how it works.

As for what you can do if you get onto page one? You might want to start getting into contact with other websites on the front page to see if you can refer sales to them for commission or send them leads at a fixed price. If the CPC is high on adwords, then that's probably still worth it.

    That's one great suggestion..
But may I ask, can I do such suggestion as early as my website appears in Google listings for my keyword?

Or should I only do this only if my website has stable and high ranking in Google?

Try it out, it does work.

I can't really take credit for the idea, I got the idea from big sites that I don't own.

Google likes to see multiple pages on the same domain that all include the same keyword (page title, url, in-text, etc...).

      Example:

      Main keyword: Car Insurance Quotes

      Supporting internal pages, page titles:

      1) Car Insurance - Compare Providers
      2) Car Insurance Guide
      3) Cheap Car Insurance, Coverage & Rates
      4) etc...

All the related supporting internal pages have 1 internal link with the keyword anchor-text Car Insurance Quotes pointing at the main keyword page.

Yes, do this as soon as you can, don't wait until your already ranking.

Like I said Google tends to put double listings on page #1 in the SERPs.

So build a single page that you want to rank on page #1 in the SERPs. Next build 10 or so internal pages to support your main keyword page.

The supporting pages have to be very focused & targeting the same keyword as your main keyword.

The goal is to make the main keyword page the most powerful page out of the series of internal pages, you don't want to over power the main page from other internal pages. You just want enough juice from the internal pages to make the main keyword an authority page.

Yes, this is how it goes with long-tails... In my experience, it doesn't take that many backlinks to rank high for them. And your keyword density does not have to be that big
And, about the most important thing to do is to use those long-tails in the anchor texts of the links pointing to your site.

See what others are doing on their site and try to offer something with an edge and never forget to grab the names of people coming to your site. You never can tell.

And then finally, enjoy it while it last.

I got first page rankings with two keywords on accident. I didn't build back links. This has motivated me to build pages, outsource link build and soon content. I just hope I can avoid the few de indexed some have on here.
