Hi,

Basically. This is what I don't get.

Say someone is looking for information about the latest upcoming macbook.
for arguments sake the term "upcoming macbook 2012" has a high search volume and low top 10 competition and good CPC so you create a nice site targeted to the keyword "upcoming macbook 2012" you do all the necessary onsite seo and then write 5 good unique article about the upcoming macbook and then install some adsense in optimum places on the site.

this is the bit i dont get....

What would make a person looking for upcoming macbook information click on an adsense ad as opposed to just browsing the articles on your site and then logging off your site once they have read what they needed. Why would someone go on your site read the info then click an add, or even click an add before they read the content.

I have been on sites with ad sense before and i have never been compelled or wanted to click on an add.

So how does it work.

I have a feeling that most people are going to come back with the "its a numbers game argument". Ie. the average CTR (click through rate) is 20 percent. So if you are getting 50 uniques to your site. you will get 10 clicks to an add a day.

But in my head I cant even see ten people out of 50 clicking on an ad.

There are some really ugly looking sites that make thousands....so obviously there is something im missing....

Id really like to know what.

Sorry about the somewhat long winded post.

I hope someone has the patience to give me an answer.

Thankyou warriors in advance.

it is in fact a numbers game argument, but no where near the 20 percent range. it will vary for different sites, designs, niches. and keywords, but much much much lower than that.

as for how they make money with this. basically most who make money via adsense are getting organic traffic from google.

so the traffic is free and any money they make is profit. its more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

People will click, with todays short attention span you will get some visitors that will click through to your site, see an ad that interests them, and they will be gone. The good part is if they do that you will get paid.

from my own experience if I click on a site and it doesnt answer my query exactly I might click on an ad if it seems to be about what I am looking for

When you builld a Adsense site the idea is to keep it ugly don't build it as you would a normal site, you are going after clicks not selling content. Heres a couple of tips

    Keep your site simple
    Use a very basic theme
Use minimal links on your pages you want users to click ads not links
Blend the Ads into the page using your theme colours
Use one square block within the content and make it look like part of your content like a bullet list.

Finally google ''optimal adsense placements ''

I have. All the time. I often find an ad on the site more interesting, or it completes what I read on the site. The site might explain the many advantages of the item and might convince me to buy the item.

Now I see an ad for the item at 40% off. If the ad looks legit, I will click

      Those days are gone.
Google is all about content now. Content is all that matters.
They call it Panda update or some sh*t like that.
Say goodbye to building tons of backlinks to spammy pages and say hello to building relevant sites with relevant content in them.

Plus you don't need to have an ugly site. It's advisable to keep the design simple, but it still must be good looking.
Otherwise people will not stay on your ugly site for more than 0,01 second ---> no clicks.

Adsense ads isn't any different from your conventional newspaper advertising or other print media. In a newspaper you have articles that are content rich and around those articles are many different ads. Advertisers will not engage in newspaper advertising if they were not extracting some sort of benefit. And thousands of warriors will not be monetizing their sites with Adsense if it wasn't profitable.

You are looking at clicking on ads from your own point of view. Other visitors may not think that way and tend to click on ads which is good for us

You are looking at it form the wrong perspective.

You are looking at it from an expert on searching, and what ads
      are.

The internet world is full of daft people, who know very little.

(How many times do I bang my head against the wall while
      watching my wife online?!?!?!)

One of the top searched for terms is facebook. Why?

Adsense is geared for the vast majority of people online.
They honestly don't know any better. But that's what
google has figured out. That's why they have record profits.

AND...if people understood this, they would realize that the
content they put MUST be a tease, a come on, IF they
      wish to get a click...

Lol, one of my best earning Adsense sites is an old blogspot template that is butt ugly. Almost 1,000 pages of hand built content that is butt ugly!

That was my very first website (ever) & has made me $$ every single day for the last 5 years (never missed a day)!

I've built plenty of great looking sites over the last 5 years, & I've found that the most simple pages always earn more & have a higher CTR.

When it comes to site design you have to treat your traffic like they are 2 years old & plan their next site navigation in advance for them. Keep it dirt simple (site design & navigation).
