Interviewing for an SEO Job

Hey everyone,

I'm interviewing for an SEO job at a local business. It's an online business, but they have an office and they want an on-site SEO director.

I feel confident in my abilities to do the job and I'm really excited about the interview. I just wanted any and all advice from any and all great SEOers and I know there are some amazing SEOers right here on the Warrior Forum (I know because I've learned most of what I know form them).

I would love and appreciate any advice about questions I should ask, what I should focus on as selling points and anything else!

    It really depends on who is interviewing you and what their personality is like. There's no right way to do an interview. Make sure you do your research beforehand, have a good idea of what you'd do to improve the website, and make sure you bring a strong portfolio.

    IMO:

    Biggest Selling Point: Past Results

    If you have a large portfolio of number one rankings in med-high competitive niches then the job is yours

    Good luck with the interview!

    Here is what worked for me. I demonstrated my seo skills through my own sites and I took the site of the employer and ripped it apart. Produce an audit document and tear the site apart.

    Michael is spot on, if its an on-site position for a company that already has a pre-existing website than ask them if you can demonstrate your capabilities during the interview.

    Heck, bring an iPad if you aren't sure that there will be a computer in the room that you'll be interviewed in. At some point during the interview, potentially when asked about on site SEO ask them if you can reference your iPad and demonstrate what you mean.

    Great advice everyone.

    I have some great sites I've ranked and am definitely going to reference them in the interview, including the process I used to get them there.

    I also have a lot of suggestions for what they should do to improve their site. It's a pretty big site and very profitable, so, some improvements will definitely just bring in more revenue.

    @RevSEO

    I wish I had an iPad! haha... but great suggestion. They said they're going to have something set up for me to prove my HTML skills, so, I'm guessing I'll be in front of a computer at some point during the interview.

    Thanks again, I knew I'd get some great suggestions on here!

    so, i hope yours goes better.
