A Question about back links in blog comments

I want to start some blog commenting soon, but have one small question.

Some blogs have a gap for you to write in your website.
In one guide I've seen, that is your backlink.

In other guides, the backlink is anchor text in the body of your comment.
Which is correct? I don't want to go about it in the wrong way.

If you are putting a link in the actual comment, there is no way the comment will get approved. That screams spam.

This is a tricky one, and it's not black & white - the most important thing to do when blog commenting is to make sure your content actually contributes to the post you're commenting on. Any backlinks you insert - which of course should be relevant and within the context of your comment - should then look natural. Personally I put the backlink in the body of the text and try and get clever about the wording to keep it looking natural.

Yes thanks, and I am aware of this. All my comments will be related and meaningful. But if it's the website link that counts, I don't want to come off as a marketer by including my links as anchor text also.

both are backlinks but a lot of blogs will not approve comments with anchor text or links in the body of the comment
