Blog Commenting Dead for SEO (using Scrapebox)?

I've seen through networks like Matt LaClear or Isac (similar service - check his WSO), that SERPs raise almost instantly with article marketing on private networks.
Even though I put 1k or more indexed comment links on my sites per month, I think Google has wised up and basically devalued them almost completely.
Profile links seem dead as well.
I'm sure comments have SOME value, just WAY less than before.
Are private blog networks the future of SEO?
