Hi!

What is the best alternative to Google Analytics?

I will remove GA and GWT from my network of websites.

www. getclicky . com is one that I've used before, it's not as good looking, but it has other stuff that analytics does not.

      +1

Clicky is so awesome. Only $5 a month for up to 3 websites.

      Or free for 1 website

If you're looking for a self-hosted solution that would be similar to GA then I'd suggest Piwik.

I haven't used it for a while but experimented with it about a year back and had a very positive impression.

I use statcounter. In many ways, I think it's even better.

    Statcounter is self hosted?

Just keep in mind that if you're planning on selling your site any time in the next year it's probably to your advantage to keep google analytics on. It can be a tough sell without a solid record.

Histats is pretty good. Good to see near live data. But in all honesty I cant seem to get away from GA. ;-)

I think that GA is the best solution for analytics but with it google can trace and connect all websites and it's so riskious!

Whatever you choose, just do some testing and be sure it doesn't increase your site's load time. I can't remember which ones, but I know there are some sites using other analytics programs and the sites stall when it hits the script for them.

I use awstat in the cpanel and I've never used GA. I let google see what I want it to see.

As far as selling a site, I've seen plenty of sites sell just fine using the stats that are available via your cpanel.

I've used Statcounter for years. Never felt the need to change to G.A. It has a plugin for Wordpress too now.

Another vote for Piwik... it's self-hosted, no-one else can see the stats unless you give 'em permission - and it has a boatload of info for you to analyze.

For a free product, incredibly good!

Piwik is the bomb diggity. Of course, Newman8r makes a good point in that GA may be one of the few site metric systems that people would take as legit: Piwik logs could be faked.

I am personally a proponent of using as few of Google's products as possible, anyway.

I've been using the stat counter widgets of whos.amung.us to some of my sites alongside GA. Maybe you should check it out since I like the widgets more than Statcounter.

And you don't even have to register. Just copy the code and paste it in your site.

But do you think that it's necessary to remove GA and GWT from a network of websites?

piwik and getclicky are both good alternatives.

If your site is a wordpress site, then I'd recommend also tracking videos of how your visitors interact with your sites. I've got a WSO (see sig) for WPClicks right now. It works great, in conjunction with piwik or google analytics.
