Ezine or Newsletter ? A couple of short questions...

Good day to you all,

I own a content-rich travel website about the metropolitan cities of East Asia and Australia.

I would like to create an Ezine (or Newsletter) that will be sent to my subscribers-list once a week with tips and informative articles about the destinations that my website covers (mostly about restaurants, food and nightlife in those cities : No self-promotional stuff like "what's new in our business").

My aim is to create a community of devoted readers, to whom I will be able to send commercial offers, from time to time...

Here are my short questions :

1. Should I call it Ezine or Newsletter ? Which sounds better marketing wise ? Which of the two sounds more "content-oriented" and less self-promotional ?

2. How long would you say it should be (pages) ?

3. Is it better to send it as 'normal' HTML email, or as a PDF attachment ?

Thanks a lot,

Roni

    My 2 cents are...
    1. Don't really see much difference in this term to be honest but asking others as you are doing is a smart bit of market research.

    2. People are moving towards using mobile browsing and mail clients on phones more so these days so I would recommend getting the main content on your website and short snippets that link off to your site within the email itself.

    3. In my experience do all you can to avoid having attachments as spam traps love them! Use HTML and offer a text only alternative too.

Best of luck with it by the way!

Thanks for reminding me about iPhone (and other mobile) users, I did not have them in mind...

I guess your idea about sending an email with "teasers" that are snippets of pages within my website is not bad, although I would like to give the Ezine / Newsletter a "personality" of its own, so readers will know they are getting some unique content which can not be read elsewhere... I'll have to see what to do about it

      Cheers, Roni
