Any good courses teaching SEO for Facebook? Maybe even a great video or article. I never really thought of optimizing my Facebook pages before and wanted to start doing more than just including my keywords in my page name. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else to do that would be beneficial.

I never thought about it, haven't done too much with Facebook pages yet. But I have a few suggestions that should help:

    • Keywords in username as well as URL
    • Keywords in description and any other info fields you can fill out and include your keywords.
    • Use your keywords on your landing page. Wherever you use images make sure you use alt text with your keywords.
    • Use keywords on your wall posts, comments, etc. Don't overdo it though, keep it natural.
    • Post YouTube videos to your wall that are keyword optimized for your keywords (title, description, and tags).
    • Build some backlinks to your page with your keywords as anchor text.

Not sure if all of those will apply to Facebook pages but that's what I'd do. I should say that's what I WILL do. I should really start that page already...

Rumor has it, its going to be based largely off of social interaction, meaning the more Likes and Comments and Shares you get, the higher its going to rank.

We'll see how it plays out...

Will be interesting to see what unravels, but I have a hard time at the moment seeing Facebook having a search as good as google. But you never know, and it will be utterly ridiculous if Facebook can control the biggest share of social media users as well as a big piece of the search pie as well. Now that is world domination and that scares me.

I have a 6 year old niece that could write a more complex algorithm than the facebook search algorithm

It's a simple as the previous post....just use your keyword in everything you do on fb and you are done

I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before and I thought I was wayyyyy behind in not considering it yet, but maybe it's not being talked a lot about yet. I'm going to start with Dan Allard's suggestions and keep researching it. Will post back if I can find anything. Thanks for sharing the article, bamstk090!

Well some things you can do...

Pick your page name and vanity URL wisely. Use keywords in the “about” box when you write your description of the page as well as in the Overview section of the info tab. Also, take advantage of FBML (Facebook Markup Language) to add custom content (text, images and links) that can includ relevant keywords that work together with your other keyword use.

When adding content like photos, discussion topics and status updates, think of keywords in titles when appropriate. Whenever you create a unique page on Facebook such as a discussion topic on a Fan page, there is an opportunity to implement most of the standard SEO tactics you would use with a web page. If permissions allow, external sites can link to the discussion page, helping it to rank well in standard search engines outside of Faceb

The newest opportunity to create content on Facebook that shows prominently in Facebook search results are Questions. Be thoughtful about keywords as you title your Facebook Question and the description. The more likes you get for your Question, the more like-ly it will show in search results, so make it interesting, descriptive, interactive (add a poll) and promote it to your network.

You don't need multiple accounts just have one personal account with multiple pages. It' easy to create a page and right now I don't think there's a limit on them. Plus then you don't have a 5,000 friend limit...which is great because one of my pages surpassed that the first day I had the page set-up...would have been a shame if I'd started it as a personal page and not a fan page. So YES, follow the FB rules.

Back to Facebook SEO, I pretty much have the basics covered, just didn't know if there were some crazy or odd things I hadn't thought of or any stealth techniques. (I often get sick of the basics of things yet that is where you typically gain the most!!)

Actually yes. Facebook uses a crude search algorithm called EdgeRank. Although they have been experimenting with unfiltering the results in response to the success of Google+ EdgeRank has not gone away.

You will find the information of how it works and how you can use it top improve your SEO in this link: helpmyseo.com/seo-tips/421-how-to-use-facebook-edgerank-to-help-your-seo.html

    I hope this helps.
