Hi,

So i gota question about meta titles. say i had 3 main keyword phrases that i wanted to use for 9 pages, (my category pages) would the search engines ding me if i used only one key word phrase on all of the 9 pages but the other 2 key word phrases were all different for each meta title on every page. Ill try to draw it out (sorry for the bad explanation, kinda tired)

Example

Page: random phrase 1, random phrase phrase 2, sandwiches
Page: random phrase 1, random phrase phrase 2, sandwiches
Page: random phrase 1, random phrase phrase 2, sandwiches
Page: random phrase 1, random phrase phrase 2, sandwiches
Page: random phrase 1, random phrase phrase 2, sandwiches
ect..

so as u can see the first two phrases in the meta title are all different, but the third key word phrase in the meta title is the same for each page..

So is this search engine friendly??

Much thanks for the responses!

    Search engines wouldn't "ding" you...

    If anything, you're "ding"ing yourself.

There should be nothing "random" about the meta title tag.

First, the meta title tag has little to do with search engine placement. Concentrate, instead, on 1) getting your keywords in the body of the page, 2) in hyperlink text from one page to another, and 3) in backlinks from other sites.

Use the meta title tag to turn searchers into visitors.

Your meta title tag will be the first thing that a searcher will read, once you do get search engine placement. If it doesn't intrigue/interest them enough to get the click... you've wasted all the time and effort you expended on search engine placement.

Your question confuses me. Your examples are all the same?

      I strongly disagree.

Your title tags are quite possibly THE most important element of onpage optimization, aside from of course, your description and H1 tags.

Your title tags should contain keywords chosen specifically from your research, not just "randomly".

Consider your description tag an opportunity for a call to action - NOT the title tags.

i know they shouldnt be random i was just using the word "random" in the example to better explain that each prhase 1 and two were supposed to be different in my first example
