If you are working in the field of the SEO then getting higher position in the google is the biggest concern for you. For this purpose people uses this technique to find his competitors inbound link and this technique is working well. The problem in technique is, you cannot find the full or many links of your competitors.
Dose any one knows footprints which can find your competitors site inbound links, especially google links back links .
Note: google link:domain name command dose find the whole or majority of the keywords. Some seo developer has made some foot print which can be helpful to find compitative back links. I am looking for that footprints please reply and share with me.

You can find all your competitor's backlinks in Yahoo Site Explorer (at least the first 1000).

The simplest way to reverse engineer your competitor's best backlinks is to do this.

    1. Grab the list of top 10 sites in Google for that keyword.
    2. Go to YSE and grab the first 1000 backlinks for those sites (for most niches, most won't have more than 1000 so you will be able to grab them all)
    3. Check the pagerank of every single link. While pagerank is NOT exact, it does give you a general idea of the importance of each link.
    4. Go through the highest PR links and see if you are also to obtain links from the same places.

Now of course, when you think outside of the box, you don't just have to do this with your competitors. You can reverse engineer the best backlinks for big time players like SEO companies.

It's pretty cumbersome by hand. Scrapebox does automate this. It's a swiss army knife for backlink building.
