Blog Commenting vs Paid Links

I don't necessarily condone or recommending using either of these techniques for any of your SEO campaigns, but both are very common these days. I know one guy that just buys links and has great results. I know another that simple relies entirely on high pr do-follow blog commenting to get rankings. It's interesting to sit back and see both working and wonder which one is better in the short run, and long run.

Do-Follow Blog Commenting Pros
Free
Endless amounts
Provide nice quick boost

Cons
Short term value (most won't stay)
Spammy technique (In googles eyes)
Blog not related to your site
High PR blogs that allow do-follow links are hard to find

Paid Link Pros
Can buy in your niche market
Carry heavy PR strength for your keyword
Will stay for a year

Cons
Can get penalized or banned
Against Googles terms of service
High cost

I'm interested to hear what your experiences have been, both positive and negative, using either of these techniques while trying to get keywords ranked.

Well I Still Goes With Blog Commenting Though it has some Cons as You Mentioned Like most of the Blog owner removed your link and No Follow Links But It is Organic Approach and it is very beneficial for your site to get Organic Inbound Links Rather Then Paid Links!!

    Do-Follow Blog Commenting Pros
    Free
    Endless amounts
    Provide nice quick boost

    Cons
Short term value (most won't stay) - well done comment will stay.
    Spammy technique (In googles eyes)
Blog not related to your site - if you pick the blog manually, it is
High PR blogs that allow do-follow links are hard to find - not as hard if you are involved with the community around your niche

I'm not trying to say that Blog Commenting is a great SEO method, but it's not bad if done right. Unfortunately "done right" means not automatted, so it's expensive in terms of time.

Before I found the warrior forum, Blog Commenting and some forums were the only SEO I had used for my offline companies site. I managed to get to the #2 spot for a couple of local keywords that are pretty competitive - the #1 sites in both spots obviously are using SEO companies, I'm working on knocking them off with what I've learned though.

I would still stick to blog commenting. What do you want? get banned or spend much effort in leaving comments to blogs?

The risks of getting spammy links from blog commenting can be avoided. So I would stick with blog commenting.

A lot of blog comments actually stick permanently if you add value to the website with your comment. It's the spammy ones that get removed.

There are two types of blog comments.

    1. High quality, well thought out, MANUAL comments on high PR posts. As long as you're leaving good comments you shouldn't worry too much about pointing the link to your site.

    2. Lower quality, higher quantity, automated blog comments on auto approve blogs. These are usually abandoned blogs. In large quantities these are good for your buffer pages. (Pages that link TO your site.) Squidoo lenses, Hubs, articles, etc. Usually sources that can handle a big surge of backlinks.

Too many people make the mistake of blasting away with thousands of automated comments and pointing them directly to their main site.

Firstly, when speaking about link-building, a mix is always to be recommended, don't just stick with one strategy.

The listed cons against blog commenting can easily be removed:
    Cons
Short term value (most won't stay) - Just sort out the 'good' blogs, leave 'quality' comments
Spammy technique (In googles eyes) - follow the blog guidelines, don't post in over- spammed, auto-approved blogs
Blog not related to your site - also use related pages in unrelated blogs
High PR blogs that allow do-follow links are hard to find - do researches, I have found hundreds of high PR blogs, dofollow, SEO friendy blogs.
