SEO Links - idevaffiliate - is there SEO benefit?

Hi there,

I am looking at the options at idevaffiliate.com and am deciding between editions. I've figured out what I want, but would love some opinions on the Platinum version - specifically the SEO/SEF links option.

I'd love opinions from people who use the Platinum version and from people knowledgeable in SEO.

I have trouble believing there is true SEO benefit to this as it seems to simply operate using 301 redirects. Yes, I understand 301 redirects are what SEs prefer when a page is moved (i.e. it notifies a previously indexed page has moved to a new location and the SE can then index the new page and drops the old one)...but is there really any benefit when it comes to this type of linking in an affiliate program?

I might be wrong, but I assumed that any links that the old page (or the affiliate's link) enjoyed did not automatically get passed onto the new page. And besides the affiliate's link probably doesn't have links pointing to it, but I may be over-analyzing and analyzing the wrong thing here.

Also, what is the benefit of having the link in this format:

SEO Link Example
http://www.yoursite.com/100.html

over this one:

Default Link Example
http://www.yoursite.com/directory/id...ate.php?id=100

Neither page actually exists, so does it actually matter?

    Hi Alice. I don't use iDev, but I can comment on the SEO questions you asked. If you have a bunch of affiliates, each affiliate will be linking to your website using his affiliate link. This is good because you have hundreds (or thousands, depending on how many affiliates you have) of incoming links. The problem is, all of your affiliates are linking to a different URL (in the eyes of search engine spiders), since each affiliate has a different dynamic ID. It's good practice (from an SEO standpoint) to 301 redirect all affiliate links to your product page, or to your site's homepage. This gives you hundreds of incoming links being channeled to a *specific* page on your website.

    Amazon does a good job with 301 redirects on their site. Amazon 301 redirects all affiliate links so that the "link juice" is channeled into specific product pages on their site, thus increasing PR, and increasing the likelihood that the targeted pages will rank.

    The benefit of using:
    http://www.yoursite.com/100.html

    over this one:
    http://www.yoursite.com/directory/id...ate.php?id=100

    is that more people will click the first link, instead of the second. Increasing click-throughs will (hopefully) increase the likelihood of your affiliate making a sale.

    Thanks guys!

    On the shorter link and click throughs, I get that for sure.

    Mobility - I do see the advantage 301 redirecting all to the same place...but are the effects of that long-lasting? In other words, once an SE sees that a page has technically been redirected, do they continue to look at all those links coming in over the long-term?

    For the record, I'll probably just get the Platinum version for the simplicity of it, but I am curious to learn more about the tangible benefits in regards to SEO...and I thank you guys for giving me food for thought.

        Like $100, so I'll probably just do it. I was more curious than anything.

        I don't know that "most" redirect and if they had this, they might feel less need to do so - so I definitely see that benefit.

      A 301 redirect tells the spiders that the page has "moved permanently," as opposed to a 302 redirect which is "temporarily moved." So, yes it's permanent and the links should continue to channel pagerank/link juice over the long-term. HTH.

        I hate being a pest about this - but do you have any references that would illustrate this? For example, a site or page that has been redirected for some time and Google/Yahoo still showing backlinks from the other site would go a long way to show this.

        Hmmm...I'm going to do some more research.

    Avoid the SEO software. Majority are spammy and create links, link wheels that get banned and disappear. Provide genuine content to boost search rankings...

      But these are genuine links from related websites. Why wouldn't you use them as an seo benefit? If they give a benefit?

      It is true it removes the ID=132 type of parameters from affiliate your URL but still SEO links are redirected links. Visitors do not stay there. There is a SEO risk on the affiliate side because Google may consider as a paid link. You may or may not get SEO benefit.

      However Natural Affiliate Links are safest. No additional tracking ID, no redirection. Just a normal link www.yourdomain.com/destination-page.php . You get 100% SEO benefit.
