Squidoo and article syndication

I was reading a thread here:

http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...-hubpages.html

And instead of bringing it back from the dead, I thought I would make a new thread.

I write fresh articles for my website. I was wondering if is okay to use those articles on a squidoo lens also?

I couldn't find an answer at squidoo.

Duplicate content on websites like squidoo and hub pages?? Please, don't turn these sites into content farms.

Its better to create your own articles or not to get into content creation.

You won't be able to publish used content on squidoo or hubpages they do not approve already published content, you can try it but your lens won't be approved. So, its better to write original articles for these web 2.0.

^ Thanks for answering the question. The other thread said squidoo didn't care, but they must have changed.

I thought it might be ok as the article would only be published on my site, but oh well.

Well now squidoo cares. But squidoo can be a really great resource to build links to your main site. Try to write informative articles on squidoo and if you can rank well in their top 10 list you can get lots of traffic and links from it.

So its always good to be original beacause nobody cares for copy content.
      Hope it helps!

Not only duplicate content but also Squidoo now has a very strict filer for spam. I can no longer create any lenses about gaming there, no idea why since my topics are all legit and they do in fact have a specific category for my type of games (online multiplayer) so it annoys me when I cannot publish.

I have given up on Squidoo.

Lol, Google loves duplicate content on Squidoo. One of my Squidoo lenses that I just copied and pasted content into is PR2 and was on top of the SERPS over exact match domains and authority websites that have 1 million pages in them.

It's still 10th now even after I abandoned it and stopped updating/linking to it due to to recent changes in Squidoo. This is on a keyword that people are paying good money for since there is always 3 ads on top of the normal search results when I google it.

But things have changed a lot after the panda update Google does penalize duplicate content.

You people are mixing up duplicate content with fantasies.

You want to put your same article on squidoo? Do it.

        Squidoo is a powerhouse.

So much stupidity on duplicate content....

Just reading some of the replies is making me barf.

I don't care about duplicate content. Many warriors have explained that it means on the same domain. I care about squidoo not wanting to keep the lens there because It's been published to my site first

All I can find here is this: http://www.squidoo.com/originalitypact and it doesn't say you can't re-publish articles that are yours. It just says it's better not to.

If someone can link me to any more squidoo rules, it would be appreciated as I can't find any.

I made all my lenses after Panda and they rank very well. I only copied content from my website and articles.

But this was before they put in a weird filter thing on Squidoo, as I said now it cannot be done. Note that it is Squidoo and not Google that doesn't want your republished content. Lenses with the same content as your blog/website/articles will often outrank the original.

Squidoo could care less if done right. But your second point about squidoo outranking
other stuff is spot on. I have several lenses that rank very high and I use them to
funnel traffic and get backlinks. They funnel very targeted traffic.

You kind of contradict yourself by saying squidoo does not want duplicate
content, but then say the duplicate content on squidoo can rank higher.

          Right the second time.

Squidoo is nothing but copied content, from blogs and images, to news and youtube.

You even make money from stuff put out by amazon, ebay, etc.

Seth Godin has taken "duplicate" content to the max and made zillions.

            Paul,

Have you been on Squidoo recently? They have made massive changes.

Old squidoo - I made lovely lenses with republished content. they rank well

New squidoo - they put in weird filters and stuff. you can no longer publish your old blog posts or articles now

However, they did not remove the old lenses that have what Squidoo calls "duplicate content." That's because it would wipe out 99% percent of all lenses!

You kind of contradict yourself by saying squidoo does not want duplicate content, but then say the duplicate content on squidoo can rank higher.
Squidoo doesn't like duplicate content. Google likes duplicate content on Squidoo and ranks it well. Squidoo is not Google. No contradiction.

Squidoo doesn't want duplicated content. This is not my opinion. Read their blog and terms of use. They have also put in a new filter that gives you warning if you copied a few lines of text from somewhere.

As for the duplicate content outranking the original, this is pretty common and you yourself said you have seen it.

They have no made no changes, just like google. But people seem
to think google has changed. Stepping up the police force maybe
considered change to some, but not me.

I am a giant squid, level 60+, etc. Yes, I know what I'm doing.

They have changed about the number of outbound links to the
same domain, but there are countless ways around that.

Okay. I err. I do know they used to allow adult content, but now
frown on that. But again, numerous ways of getting around it.

Check out the top lenses. Tons of scraped content. As stated,
you could make a lens using nothing except scraped content.

Well, you would have to put a picture (stolen even) and at least
200 characters in the intro...That has not really changed. To
get a lens green lighted before, similar guidelines were in place.

If they were worried about duplicate content, they would delete
virtually all modules. They mostly steal content across the web.

                Hey Paul,

Since you are giant squid there I have to ask you a few questions if you don't mind.

Does squidoo do not allow any more posts on SEO and related stuff, coz most of the lenses I write don't get approved. Also, how much traffic and links does squidoo drive you.

Well that is very surprising if it happened because at one side Google is cutting down on republishing of articles and on the other hand it gives more authority to the copy pages. Strange! what do you think?

Squidoo doesn't like duplicate content nowadays.

Their spam filter has got twitchier as well, but that's probably a good thing for the site overall. Certain topics are now off bounds completely but Squidoo can get and provide nice traffic so I think it's still worth jumping through a couple of hoops with them.

Squidoo Link - Original vs. Unoriginal Content: How to tell the difference

Simply put, our clinical definition of duplicate content is: content that exists on a Squidoo lens AND on several other sites on the web.

Not sure about Hubpages but do know for sure about Squidoo. I had lenses that had 70% duplicate content or less and they were removed. They were there for a few months and then were removed. So my advice would be even if you want to use duplicate content make a lense in Squidoo first and ping it (similar to what you should do for EzineArticles). Then after few days post in on your blog. Now if Squidoo gives you a warning that your lense will be removed due to duplicate content you can always communicate and claim that your content has been in Squidoo first and get your lense back.

That would decrease credibility for my site.
