Site at #1 in Google Yet No Sales, Please Help with Conversion

Hello Friends,

One of my sites, peepholecamera.org, has been ranked #1 in Google for the keyword "peephole camera" for almost 5 months. The first day it hit #1 I had two sales. Since that day I have only had 2 more sales TOTAL. Keyword tool says this term alone gets 1900 exact global searches a month. I am receiving 20 to 30 unique visitors a day and not getting any more sales. Now I am not expecting a million sales from this site, but I assumed I could get 1 every few days or at least 1 a week. I am getting over 700 uniques a month so a conversion of even 1% should bring 7 sales, but I am getting nothing.

I am asking for advice on how to create more sales and conversions or how to monetize this site better. Any advice or criticism would be appreciated. Thank you.

Eric

You're only getting 700 visitors per month. That's not unusual. If 1 out of 100 people who visited my site made a purchase, I would be rich.

When people are talking about conversion rates, they are usually referring to number of sales divided hops. Not sales over number of site's traffic.

    Eric,

You'll have to really look into your traffic, the site looks good, easily navigational, I'm sure the bounce rate is below 50%, if not, this is one element to think about. I would look to see what navigational summary the users have to see what product is being clicked the most.

Maybe concentrate on that specific page.

Other option is, more traffic. This could just be one of those niches...

But keep in mind you have to convert the visitor twice... first on your page, and then on the advertisers page. If you have 700 visitors and say 20% of them click through your site, which is a decent conversion, you would have 140 visitors on the advertisers site.

If their site converts at 1%, there is your once in a while 1 sale

    Another option...

This item is one of those items that is mass produced, if you go to Manufacturers, Suppliers, Exporters & Importers from the world's largest online B2B marketplace-Alibaba.com and search peephole cameras or viewers I bet you'll find a supplier that could sell them cheap... being so, you can price it yourself at your own mark up that would be greater then the standard commission.

Anyways... I would say concentrate on more traffic, find LSI keywords to rank for.

It's a cool product... I'd be tempted to make a few thousand flyers and plaster them all over every apartment complex within a hundred miles. Just go in and put one on every doorknob.

I have actually considered this with other products, but apartment complexes are pretty hard to get into around here if you do not live in them

We often forget that if we are selling ice in a December, it won't work no matter how great the numbers are. The product has to be worthwhile and you need to pay attention to demands.
You may be a champion of online selling but you can't be successful in selling what people don't want.

Maybe it might just be something simple as changing the product details button into a 'buy it now' button..

It's strange how your sales have dried up.

I suspect it's not your traffic that's the problem, I'd say its the affiliate tracking that's not working properly crediting you with sales. These things can happen unfortunately.

  • It's time to figure out how to capture their email.... then figure out how to offer them a peep hole camera that is better than the competition somehow.

Buy something at Amazon, then search something at Amazon... then a few days later the emails start.

If you can't get the initial sale then you need to capture the address... give them something of real value... articles on how to use the cameras for some purpose... information on how to install, whatever you can create.

People often do not buy the first time they see something. In this case they come to your site... see what you have to offer, remember that you didn't have what they wanted and buy from someone else.

It's your job to sell to them and maintaining contact is how you do that.

Add a video or something, on the importance of a peephole cam.
