653 Backlinks in under a month? How'd That Happen??

O.k. Got a little problem here. I built a brand new site about a month ago and I haven't seen it in Google at all. I have done my usual backlinking strategy that has worked fine in the past (not going to fast, etc.) and was wondering why I haven't seen my site anywhere in the top 100.

So anyways I checked to see how many of my links were indexed and I found out I have 653 links!

I haven't bought any link packages or anything like it. I've just done the manual link building right now. Mostly ALL of these sites are pointing back from 1 blog, in particular.

Does anyone know how this could've happened? I'm starting to think as I write this thread that maybe I picked up links from the previous domain owner or something? (FYI, Bought domain from Namecheap NOT previous domain owner)

Will these links ever help me? Or is this site now "STAMPED" in Google's mind as a spammy site?

If its mostly from one blog then its a sitewide link... Meaning their URL appears on every page of that blog..

Also, what is so spectacular about 653 links in a month?

Most probably, you commented on a site using the plugin top commenter or something similar.

They will be deindexed as you move down the ladder.
BTW, that can not be reason for you not ranking.

Ok well after doing some further investigating with other back-link checkers, I Yahoo Site Explorer is the one showing 653, MajesticSEO is showing a spike of 150 around 2 weeks ago. So I guess that doesn't include all the tag/category pages. While other backlink tools say no backlinks at all while others say they can't find the the website.

I know I probably shouldn't be trusting Yahoo site explorer anymore but it still shows accurate backlinks on my other sites. Actually it has other links that I built manually on there too.

Is there a backlink checker that does an accurate job that I should be using?

TO "Vlad Romanov" I personally don't like to see 653 sites all at once to my in under a month when its a new site. I've had sites never come back from blasts of links. But nothing like this. That's why I was wondering what happened.

About ranking, I never really have a problem ranking quickly within the 1st 10 pages within a week or 2 so that's why it put up a red flag for me. So I assumed it was because of this.

You know due to the Bing merger, Yahoo Site Explorer is one of the asaets slated for retirement, we'll be losing that source and the other sites that rely on Yahoo data.

Looks like Open Site Explorer might have to be my new standard, I just don't like seeing the paid version teasers every time I use it.

    • I don't trust results returned from Site Explorer. I'm about to drop it from my metrics.

I keep track of all my links in Excel and I tried Open Site Explorer and I am not getting the same results as yahoo and my spreadsheet. I even checked for my link visibility on a couple of my sites that weren't listed on OSE and they are still there. Is this backlink checker that accurate for you? Is it new? I like the set-up of it, though and the information it CAN tell you.
