Hi Warriors

I've noticed I've been getting some traffic from a site called Pinterest.com for the last couple of weeks on my health blog.

What happens is I get an influx of 20 or so visitors in an hour and then it dies down to a very slow trickle and then a few days later there will be another 20-30 visitors in an hour.

I've had over 200 visitors in the past two weeks from this traffic source so I checked it out.

From the About page, it says it enables you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.

From what I can tell, just one person has "Pinned" some of my blog posts to their pinboard, but I don't understand how that is generating so much traffic. They only have 49 followers.

Has anyone used Pinterest as a way to drive traffic? Or are you indirectly generating traffic from it like me?

Here's the link:

Thanks,
James

I've never used it to drive traffic, but I'll tell you what - my girlfriend is on there constantly just browsing. It's basically a social bookmarking site, but instead of "bookmarking" a page/picture/video/etc., you pin it up on your pinboard for others to see. Soooo, it's basically just a social bookmarking site with a few small twists.

I would like to find someone that could get some of my stuff pinned. If anyone has these capabilities, please let me know.

It's a great time waster. My wife's on it all the time.

"TAKE ACTION" is the first thing everyone tells you and then they leave it at that. I'll add a second part: TRACK EVERYTHING" - It's the only way to ensure your ACTION leads to results.

Pinterest is one of the biggest startups receiving millions of dollars in capital. Read about them on Techcrunch and Mashable.

Pinterest is a great site... but has zero revenue model. It reminds me of the .COM era.

But I dig it. Lots of great traffic... especially for product sellers if you can get creative with your photography.

Just noticed it on squidoo lenses. Had no idea if people knew
what it was. Did a search here and found this thread.

Seems to be the latest and greatest social thing to come along.

Looks different, but the same. How many of these do we need?
One? So many of these have bit the dust.

I did type my email in for an invite. We'll see.

Pinterest kinda reminds me of flickr/twitter/stumbleupon combo. Flickr because it's very visual. Twitter because the original "pinner" usually just shares a little comment and then the link. Better than Twitter because it's a more organized discussion between followed and followers. StumbleUpon cause it's like a social bookmarking experience.

There's a spot where you can view every post that has been "pinned" which is probably where you're getting sudden spikes. One person pinned your site their followers went to check you out. Then a day or so later someone else finds your site while browsing either the everything, video, popular or gifts headings and they re-pin it. Then you're introduced to all of their followers. On and on...

I was just thinking about using Pinterest to drive traffic to my site. They have a ton of niches, so you can get some pretty targeted traffic.

Problem with Pinterest is that you need to request an invite ... and you need to use your facebook or twitter account to log in.

It is funny that everyone is posting about their wives and girlfriends going on Pinterest. Sounds to me like if you have a site which niche is for women you may just get some Pinterest traffic out of nowhere. Funny but interesting.

Really great site. I am starting to get the hang of pinterest, and I am learning more creative ways to gain exposure to my websites using it.

Sounds like an interesting place to get traffic (or should I say - to create some value). Thanks for the heads up.

It sure is Pinterestng. I got my invite earlier this week. At first glance it is information overload. That is just my opinion. It is definitely a site on the rise. Alexa has it @ #106, and at this rate it will be top 25 by summer. Investors will be throwing tons of cash their way outside of the 37 Million so far. As far as a business model or monetization goes, facebook had no plan either in it's infancy.
