I started a brand new blog. It looked pretty and shiny and was sure to bring me a fortunate. Now all i needed to do was wait for the stampede of traffic to come through and make me rich. A couple of weeks went by nothing. I when on and optimized my blog for my primary keyword, waiting for my blog to show on the first page of google among a couple of million of other site competing for that same keyword. Nothing. No traffic, no sales, no money. What should i do? Build another blog around a different niche or quit altogether.

well, i think you should explain your situation in more detail. such as, what is your niche? Do you have a prefect SEO for your blog? Do you update the content regularly? Do you use original content?
if all are in a good condition. and what you need to do is insist on it, keep optimizing, keeping updating. a new blog really need time to get a good result.
    good luck.

You have the typical "noob" mindset. If you want your site to appear as #1 on google you'll have to do tons of work...

But that depends, are the keywords that you're going after competitive? If your going after a competitive keyword then you might want to start over.

Go back to the drawing board and analyze your competition and the amount of searches for that keyword. Keyword Tool

P.S- Weight Loss niche? I would advice looking for a less competitive area. That is, if you want to see results.

    Avis,

Congrats for getting your blog up and running. That in itself is a lot of work. Now to get traffic, that is an ongoing task. You need to get links from other websites coming into your blog. Start by looking at other blogs in this niche. Read them, comment appropriately,

Here's a good place to start:
Alltop - Top Weight Loss News

Looking at your blog, it's not exactly staying on topic. Focus on quality articles about weight loss, not "enhancements."

The biggest thing I can ever tell you is work with people , websites and organisations that already have the traffic you are looking for . You want to keep your efforts focus on your topic an you want to leverage other people efforts in such a way that it would be a win -win for all parties

It is going to take commitment (executing on the strategies EVERYDAY until you see results) and lots of efforts . Rather Than give many strategies and overwhelm you . I would give one strategy :Guest Blogging . If you would commit and take action for the next year and write 5 articles im more high traffic popular blogs on your topic , you would get more traffic

    Regards

Guest posting is a legit option to not only draw traffic, but build up backlinks and make some new friends in your blogosphere at the same time. Make sure you actually have an article that will benefit the hosts site and also make you look like an expert on what you're speaking about.

Good luck.. Also, I'd recommend reading the "Popular Post" sections of Problogger.net Copyblogger.com and Dailyblogtips.com they have a lot of excellent material on blogging, especially for beginners.

Listen to this advice, because it's good!

I hope that you understand how much work really is involved here. The weight loss niche is one of (if not the most) competitive niche there is. You can't just post to your blog a few times a week and "wait" for your blog to be on page 1. There are (literally) millions and millions of other people who are trying to do just that - so you have to outwork them.

Updating your blog 4 times a week is a great start. However, you have to move off-site, too. After all, the world is not waiting on bated breath for you to publish your next post (heck, the world doesn't even know your blog exists! ) You have to market yourself off-site. Consider it to be like opening a restaurant... You've got a great menu, but if you don't promote it, no one's going to know it's open for business.

It depends what niche you are in and the competition and the kinds of things you are promoting. The holidays are around the corner, so I would focus on products that are going to be hot for the holiday season, being sure to target the right keywords. There are lots of diff. products across various niches you can promote. Get ranked in the search engines before stuff is advertised on t.v. and stuff when there is little competition. You will start to see traffic in a days. The massive amounts of traffic will bring in money with little effort on your part.

    Good luck,
    Joey

    Hi avisoriol,

    How are you?

It's great to see that you have made a start by making frequent posts on
your weight loss blog. However, it seems like you are not targeting the
'buying keywords' that are in the weight loss niche. First of all, try for
a less competitive keyword rather than a very competitive keyword such as 'weight loss' in this case.

Next, you have to do off-page SEO optimization, such as
    1. blog commenting on other high PR blogs to drive new traffic. Make sure
that the posts are legitimate, helpful and on-topic comments. Once these links are indexed, your site ranking will improve.

    2. Submitting your best posts to Social Bookmarking sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, and more to quickly boost traffic to your blog.

    3. Optimizing your pages for search engines to find them. You may include keywords and links but I would suggest you not to overload your posts with too many relevant keywords. If you do it this way, it will consider as spamming and may risk of your blog being removed from Google's search entirely.

    4. Post articles to Web 2.0 sites so as to generate links back to your main blog.

    5. Create and submit video(s) to youtube with relevant keywords.

Of course, there are lots of ways to drive traffic to your blog. However, you will require consistent, steady and of quality links back to your site so as to improve your site ranking.

    Hope it helps...

    Cheers,
    Raymond

Like most people have said, this will take time and you have to link build and make connections and most importantly network. There are many ways you can do this, I suggest starting with an SEO, put yourself out there and offer your knowledge to others who may not yet be up to creating their blog. Basically utilise your resources starting with your own knowledge. This will gain you some traffic but I would also suggest social media advertising and when you're further established, your options will increase. Best of luck!

I actually Created a Facebook fan page where bloggers share their content with each other. Then the other bloggers go to the post to blog, leave comments, and share the posts on their social media accounts.

This method isn't exactly new however it is allowing brand-new blogs to gain significant traction via the social bookmarking sites and other social media sites. I am also in a couple Skype mastermind groups that are doing the same thing. My blog is only about a month old and not very targeted, but it is still bringing in about 100 unique visitors a day and increasing.

    Regards,

Traffic is an entire chapter. However if you`re just started out I recommend you to take some time first and do a proper keyword research. Avoid to target competitive keywords because your chances to get on the first page of Google will decrease considerably.

Tr to find low competition keywords in your niche related to whatever your website is about and do some social networking/social bookmarking, article marketing press release submission etc...

This will help you to get some traffic.

Alternatively you could also invest in PPC if you have some money but once again chose your keywords carefully. Don`t bid on competitive keywords as the cost per click is high and you will pay to much money for little traffic

From what I can tell from your situation, you most likely are a page rank 1. A page rank 1 is very difficult to rank in the beginning, mainly because you are a new website and you need to build trust within the search engines in order for them to start promoting you. Updating content regularly is a great way to start building trust. And make sure that everytime you have a new post, ping it. Use a website like pingler.com to get the search engine bots to index your page and therefore associate your keywords for that page.

Someone before me said something very pertinent, all seo techniques apply to blogs, and that is correct. Both on-site and off-site seo applies to blogs. Meaning, making sure your onsite is optimized correctly, meaning you have the proper headings, titles, bold tags, italic tags, so on and so forth. Also, if you include images in your blog, although not as important anymore as it used to be, make sure you have the meta tags and meta keywords associated with the images.

As for your offsite, manual back linking is key. There are ways to automate it, but everyone, when they are first creating their site should learn manual back linking. This will start to build your ranking within the search engines and slowly but surely start promoting you within the search engines.

Just know, that just because you created a site does not mean monetize it right away. you need to build a following before you go and do that. No one will advertise if you do not have a following. No eyes, no ads. Lastly, this is a process, it takes time, keep at it and you will get there.

Okay so you're in the fitness niche. Got it.

You can have a ton of traffic but if you aren't capturing them in the right places then you'll never make any money.

I think you should always give your visitor a reason or at least an opportunity to opt in. You definitely want to make a list of repeat customers, and not just a one time. So definitely build your list. Because in the fitness niche there's a lot of stuff you can market to them.

OBVIOUSLY add value to their lives and don't just use them. But once you build that trust you'll be able to affiliate market to them as well as create your own products. Maybe a membership site? etc.

Anyways you need the traffic first. I like that you're adding new content every week. That's always solid.

However you need to use LSI keywords (latent semantic indexing) to support your main keyword that you're trying to target. So for instance if you're targeting say tomato's, you'd also include roma, tomato juice, etc..get what I mean?

So you want a lot of traffic?

First, search your keyword and see what your competition is. Put your keyword in quotes when you search in google and look at the number below the search bar. An ideal number would be something under 120,000 competing pages. That's really not that tough to rank for. If it's say around 600,000-950,000 competing pages then that's going to take more work. However there's competition for a reason..there's money to be made!

So once you've establish that you can figure out how much work you need to put in on a daily basis. And honestly ranking just takes time and quality/relevant content. Literally write for your reader. Yes do your on page SEO and optimize for the search engines but don't write for them.

The only work you should be doing as far as getting your website ranked in Google is spinning a few articles. Then submitting them to web 2.0 property websites, and blog websites, and article websites such as squidoo, hubpages, infobarrel, ezine articles, article city, goarticles, blogger, tumblr, wordpress.org, etc.

That's your outer layer. Then in all of those you should have links pointing back to your website with the anchor text being your keyword.

Then take those outer layer links. Spin another article and then do a mass article submission to say Unique Article Wizard. If you don't have the software then just go to Fiverr and pay someone $5 to do it for you. Super cheap. Do that once a month, and maybe pay someone to run your outer layer links through a software like SeNuke that does auto blog comments with your anchor text links and honestly you can rank a website to #1 in as little as a month and a half.

If you need any help feel free to let me know.

    Cheers!

First be sure that your blog contains unique content and that can be helpful for visitors. And then promote your blog on social media and try to get more people to visit it and then make interaction with them to increase your blog readership and to provide more meaningful stuff so they stick to your site.

Social media is everything these days and people are more likely to check their Facebook page than a blog. Create some social media profiles that will connect you to a network of other users. If people check out your profile on a regular basis, this could generate interest. From there you can include links back to your blog and connect to a whole other network of users.

I am new to the WF. In fact this is my first post. The term "Content is King" is not a myth, but it should be renamed to "Relevant Content is King". Relevant to who? Readers/potential customers yes, but also the search engines. Imagine you are hosting a big dinner. The most important guests who should be seated and served first is Google,Bing,Yahoo as well as others. Thus Keyword density, keyword phrases in title, description, body text and proper use of Heading tags will work wonders. This alone can overcome your competition. Your competitors can have a million+ back links, yet have a low Page Rank. Back links do not guarantee the 1st page on google. Relevancy does. If You have Relevant content, The 3 internet gods will reward you. As far as back links, those are weighed in also for Relevancy. Back links are doors to your site. That does not mean those doors are used. If your blog is focused on Homemade Cookies, you are not going to get any scores with a back link from say a gamer site. Target back links that are Relevant to your niche and contents.

When you have Relevant content, your PR will go up and quality back links will follow.
