My curious experience with one website

It is really difficult to play with Google. The following is my curious experience with one website:

June 11 My site was sandboxed for the first time.Lost all rankings.I didn't lose heart, kept updating and building backlinks steadily and slowly.

June 17 My site came back.

June 30 My site was sandboxed for the second time.Lost all rankings.I didn't lose heart, kept updating and building backlinks steadily and slowly.

July 28 My site came back with increased traffic.Great! Built backlinks steadily and slowly, tweaked some pages.

August 5 My site was sandboxed for the third time.Lost all rankings.Lost heart! Stopped all work with this website.

Today My site comes back with increased traffic.

There's nothing to be happy about.I have a hunch my website will be sandboxed again, because I fail to find the root cause that triggers penalty.

It seems that keeping updating and building backlinks is not helpful.Could anybody please tell me what I should do,then? Thanks in advance!

It's normal for a site to go up and down in many niches.
        It's not a sandbox. It's not a penalty.

The internet is not static. On any given day, millions of new
pages of content are created. They get no love? Google
would be a fool if it showed the same stuff over and over
        and over...

Not all niches get this treatment, but many do.

Best thing to do is to stop the insanity of checking your
rankings constantly. Once you get over that, start
thinking as to how YOU can attract targeted visitors to
        your site, google or not.

Build more content and keep things coming.

The more content you build and attract targeted
visitors on your own, the more google in the long run
        will like you even better.

Your site is not unique in these scenarios and I think Google hold your site for some reason like there are some websites that are more related and competitive for the same targeted keyword or your site need some more changes and efforts to attract the search engine.
