Please give a Newbie to the SEO/Internet Marketing World some tips on Creating Micro Niche Sites!

Hello everyone.
I am a new member. My name is Kirk and as from the title, I an also new to this whole SEO and Internet Marketing saga.
Just to be short I need help with the following things:
Usually when I create a website I would just use keywords that I would probably type into google to find info and these practices have proven to be a failure for me.
My aim now is to build multiple micro niche websites that can stay on auto pilot because I have school and I do not have that much time to be updating that many sites.
Also I am not that financially able to do all I want like purchase TLD names (.com, .org etc..) so I have to resort to FREE domain names (****) but I have managed to accure a Hostgator Baby Croc Hosting plan which will allow me to host multiple domains.
Now that you know my situation. I would love some help or tips from all the Warriors out there to help me get started with creating my franchise of micro niche websites.
I am doing all this because my family as I stated above is not so great financially and I need to start making some money to pay for my college tuition, I should be going to college next year but we cannot afford it and I would love to change that and make enough money online so I can go to college by 2013.
So you may provide me with some links to posts or articles or preferably videos (yeah, I'm a teenager so reading really isn't my thing!
) that will guide me to the correct way of creating these micro niche sites.
