What do you think of this competition?

kw has ~13,000 exact searches each month.

What do you think can be achieved in 6 months with full-time dedicated work?

If I am able to pull this off, I'm looking at a minimum of $5000 per month recurring income which will keep on increasing. Wouldn't even need adsense or any affiliate/cpa/etc...

EMD is not available. The 1st, 8th and 10th results are EMD.com, .net and .org

Based on that graphic alone I would say go for something easier.

Maybe look at a longer tail version of the keyword? Then when you succeed with that you may be in a good position to attack the main keyword.

Seems pretty tough competition. High PR and high backlinks. It would be tough to rank for this

Go for 20 500 search per month keywords, the long tails will make up for any difficulties. WAY easier that whatever that keyword is. However, I would say go ahead and go for it while going after the other smaller ones, and use them to build on that one. Can't hurt.

the bottom 3 seem doable to me. and the last one is just sitting there waiting to be taken out. I would be happy even with 10th place. It is just the timeframe that I am not sure about and need advice on. How long do you suppose it will take to get to the 1st page?

Why would you want to be in the bottom 3? You'll still get less than 10% of that traffic. You could get to #10 within 1-2 months (at most) working consistently, but for less than 1300 uniques per month it's too much work in my opinion. Of course, it depends on how much the keyword is worth.

^^ it's thirteen thousand exact searches each month. do you mean to say that it is not worth it even if I get 10% of that traffic?
and the keyword is pretty high value...related to the travel and leisure industry. anyway, I don't need adsense clicks. I just need page views.

I was just saying that once I am on the first page, the pressure would ease a bit and I can gradually move up instead of working my ass off each day.

What would your strategy be to get to #10 in this case?

also, I'll be offering something which only one other site in the whole page has to offer. So people might scroll down and click even if it is on the 10th place. not too sure about this though.

    Thanks!

To get to the top 10 I would write probably 30 posts and schedule them one a day for a month, then submit the site to directories. I'd make an RSS feed for the site and submit that to RSS directories. I would then write/submit 1 1000+ word article per week to Isnare and phantom writers for syndication (not free, but worth it). I'd also create one video per week and distribute it with TubeMogul.

I'd use onlywire or Bookmarking demon (depending on budget) to bookmark everything, and use facebook/twitter for traffic. All of that being said, I go for traffic first and rankings second, so that might not be the fastest way.
