Aged Domains

Is purchasing an aged domain and redirecting it to your site to boost your PR still working? My domain for my business is only a few months old. I figured what I could do is buy an aged domain that is relative to my business and redirect. I was led to believe that this basically makes the aged domain's PR, your new PR for your web home page. Am I wrong in this belief?

Also, how do backlinks to an aged domain work? And what are the best places to buy these domains without getting jilted on fake PR? I've heard a lot of caution preached on that.

      Yes it still works, but keep in mind that domain scammers will do the same thing. It passes some of the age and PR, but not all. Backlinks are redirected to the new domain. It used to be you could use info:domain.com to see if they used this technique, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Buying PR domains is risky, dropped domains as well. I'd check the backlinks if there were any high pr backlinks, or a lot. Also check the registration date, I've seen sites registered for only a week that had a PR 3 or 4, like I said it can be risky. Not sure if it matters as much but check the sellers feedback as well.

        What do you use to check the backlinks? Also, what services would you recommend? I have Market Samuraii's domain checker but I haven't heard much about it.

          I usually use the searchstatus firefox addon for quick checking, or seoquake. And sometimes backlinkcheck.com or majesticseo.com. As for MS I think it only gives you the backlinks for the top 10 listings of a keyword. The PR domains with little or no backlinks are usually a dead giveaway. You might checkout seospyglass or seocockpit, there's been some reviews of them (in the review forum I think), I haven't used them but their names seem to come up often.

    We also have purchased an aged domain after getting slammed by the recent panda updates, as our team decided it was better to just start over. Another thing to consider is when buying your domain that we did was to renew/register it for over 5 years. This is something that was advised to us. Not sure of the results as of yet will keep you posted.

    Buying high pageranked domains can be risky but if you do a little bit of research and check out where the backlinks are coming from using SEO Moz or Majestic SEO you can get a pretty good idea of weather or not the domain has true pr or if it is being faked.

    info:website.com does still work. I have yet to see that method lie to me.

    At the updated level, Now days Google won't love much search engine ranking position to redirected domains as Google has mostly prevented to rank the most redirected domains.
