how to analyze top 10 google competition

as i`m new in this, i just read that you must check everytime the top 10 google competition for the keyword you`re targeting. i check them with seobook, but what i didn`t understand is if the page 1 in google is filled with articles from everywhere, like wikipedia, free .blogspot blogs, .gov domains and articles from other sites that are not related to my keyword, this is supposed to be easy competition?
with allintitle:"keywords" the number of results is 400, which is supposed to be extremly easy to rank for. and i can buy a exact top level domain name.

and in generaly, if the page one in google didn`t show a micro niche website for that keyword but only pages from wikipedia, youtube or blogspot, this ca be easy to rank for with a exact top level domain name, some quality articles and some good authority backlinks?

thanks

With the kind of setting you are posting, I'd try, that is the only way to know if it is easy to rank for a keyword . I recommend you to use a plugin for firefox and chrome called SEOQuake, this will tell you what PR the page is, the number of backlink it has, the age, etc.
This is really useful if you want to know the competition for a certain keyword.
Here you are saying that most of the ranking pages aren't related to your keyword, that is really good that mean that nobody focus much on it. Google simply place stuff to fill it up.
If there is no micro niche site for the 20 first results, either you found a good lil' keyword or it is simply something nobody will buy from it
I suggest you to go in the adwords keyword tool and check how much "exact" search this particular keyword is getting every month locally.

i use seobook for firefox, it shows me pr, backlinks to page and to domain, the number of visitors and so on. it`s a really good plugin.
of course i check the exact searches and avg cpc... i am a newbie but still )
all the keywords that i`m after are 2000+ exact global searches and 1 €+ acording to google keyword tool.

Without knowing the keyword it is hard to say but by the sounds of it, I would think it is not too difficult.

Forget the whole allintitle: or placing your keyword in "" to see your "competition" as this is rubbish. It may be useful for you to get the free version of Traffic Travis and put the keyword in and it will give you an idea.

Really you should just look at the top 3 to see if their pages are optimised for your keyword (TT does this) and then you can go for it. Remember that the money is in the top 3 results as below that you are fighting over the scraps.

Also, you need to use the Google Keyword Tool and put in your keyword and put a tick on the left hand side for "exact match" and this will give you an estimate on the search volumes (not totally accurate but a good indicator). You may find that the search volumes are next to non existent if there is not really any competition, believe me I did this years ago on my first site and it got about 5 visitors a day, this being said it was a proffesional business so easily made profit which would not have been the case for an affiliate or similar site.

so from what you`re saying i understood that if there isn`t in the top 3 a website optimized for my keyword it is easy to rank, no matter the competition in google and number of results in google? that`s good to know

and i`m asking in generaly if wikipedia and youtube especially are easy to outrank because i have found a lot of keywords that showed in the top 5# results in google pages from blogspot, wiki and youtube.

so in theory every website can be outrank if you have well optimized your site for a particular keyword...

one more question: what matters the most for micro niches websites, the exact domain name and quality unique articles with keyword density or some good quality backlinks? i know that both of them are essentialy for ranking, but which of them Google apreciate most?

Whew you are really at such a low level of understanding of the whole process of analyzing the top ten its hard to teach that in a forum post

go to Youtube, enter "analyze google top 10" and it will pull up lots of video tutorials, with different software that works
IMO it takes approx one month of reading and studying tuts to really learn this but
    IMO its worth it
this is the MOST important part of SEO and learning to make websites for Adsense or IM, that I know of

learn it and take your time
btw allintitle all that is total waste of time all that counts is top 10 competition on Google when you enter the kw with no quotes

If you are still asking about allintitle
you truly have no clue how to analyze the top 10,
allintitle has nothing to do with anything, its a myth perpetuated by people who dont know what they are talking about

thats like someone saying ok only enter the kw in google, then see what the competition number is that comes up. You want competition below 100k
you hear this all the time

thats total hogwash, has nothing to do with your true competition
I dont care if that number that comes up in google says 100 MILLION
    makes no difference

If you pay attention to allintitle
and also the SEOC (search engine competition that shows when you enter the word in google with no quotes) that number is very misleading and you will be passing by TONs of great kws

all the new kws that I found for my new niche what did I look for
    BACKLINKS TO PAGE

all of them have backlinks to page of less than 50
    but
    If I entered ALLINTITLE
or I looked in google what competition number that came up, it would have said dont go for that kw

so If you think you know what you are doing why are you asking for advice on the board?

well i just said that for you to make an opinion about the low competition from google, or better said low interest in this particulary keyword.

and what`s so extremly hard in knowing how to analyze the top competition from google? you think that you`re the only smart guy around here? just if you are experienced internet marketer seo guru or whatever you like, doesn`t mean that i don`t know what i`m talking about.
if i said that i`m a newbie here, that doesn`t mean that i stupid or whatever. i know how to check PR, keyword density, yahoo pagelinks, links to page, links to root domain, pages and domains linking to the root domain, the semnrush traffic value and compete.com visitors and competition, rank in alexa.

or at least that`s what i learned from here and other sources over the internet. and that`s why i asked here, to learn more

allintitle has nothing to do with anything,
you should know that by now if you know how to analyze top 10
allintitle is how many pages in google have the kw in the title

what if that value is 20 million?>
means nothing as related to top 10 competition

i repeat, again, i asked some reviews about outranking wikipedia and youtube as the first results in google...

i just thought that maybe it would be harder to outrank this because of the extremly high number of backlinks and high pr. but nevermind...

        wikipedia can be outranked however
I would not put my hopes into it, especially the New Panda update seems to give authority sites a boost

apologies if I seemed a bit harsh earlier

Youtube, Amazon, Blogspot etc are not necessarily a bad sign if you see them in the top 10.

What really matters is the number and quality of backlinks to the particular page.

For example, quite often I'll see an Amazon product page in the top position. However, pretty much the only reason that page is ranking is due to the domain authority of Amazon itself as the product page can have 0 backlinks.

In those cases, it's not too hard to outrank them with a properly optimized page/site and some decent backlinks.

SEOQuake is a great tool, but use it carefully as you'll likely have your IP banned quickly for 8-12 hours by Google.

Another tool, which you also should be careful with unless you have proxies, is SEO Spyglass. You can enter in a query, and then analyze the top 10 with it, doing even deeper analysis than SEO quake by looking into important factors to determine why the competitors have the top 10 rankings.

There are also Market Samurai, and SERPIQ as well, which you could look into.

The first two are free though, and the last two are paid solutions.
