Will a 301 bring search engine rankings with it?

Hi guys!

Lets say I have a EMD with the keyword "wedding-dresses" and that I rank #2 on this term. If I now redirect it to a store that sells wedding-dresses would the store rank #2 for that keyword?

And if I would like to build more backlinks to push it to rank #1, should I do this by creating backlinks to the original domain?

Thanks!
#301 #engine #rankings #redirect #search

Theoretically, redirected domain should pass all credit to the new domain.

    But practically, things may differ.

Your new domain would rank high but it may take some time to get its actual rankings.

And it doesn't always take all the link cred with it.

There are a whole bunch of factors that come into play.

I've had success with it in a medium competition market, but not so much in a high competition.
