Would like some Google Top 10 analysis advice!

Basically I've decided to start a Niche Blog, and obviously I want the highest chance possible when it comes to Google ratings for my selected keyword.

I've found a Keyword which relates to what I want to base this Niche around, and I need some help from those experienced with SEO.

So first of all pretty much every single site in the top 10 are NOT root domains. That for me looked like a good sign.

There are two sites with 0 Backlinks, and the rest have from 100-400.

The page ranks are all from 2-4 (no 0's) - Bad sign??

Most of the pages have the keyword in the title.

So basically the weaknesses I see are:

No root domains (at all, each site is a a page of another root domain)
Low (ish) banklink numbers, and two pages with 0 backlinks.

Global monthly searches = 4200
Local monthly searches = 2400
CPC = $2.68

Is this a good keyword to target for my niche? Or should I continue searching. I'm curious if the weaknesses I identified should be enough to override the other strengths?

Sure, if ever I see sub pages without backlinks or with very few it is generally a good sign. Don't get me wrong they will no doubt get link juice passed within the domain.

I generally just look at the top 3 and analyse the backlinks to the pages ranking to see if they are targeting the keyword with their link building.

By the sounds of it, it shouldn't be too difficult to rank.

    Good luck !

    ^ Thanks!

Will look into more detail into their back-links to see if they are targeting the same keyword!

CPC according to what ? The google kw tool that shows the CPC?
    Or SpyFu(much more reliable)

    or Contextual tool in Google
    Kws tool
This is the CPC value for Adsense

Also whatis the PR values of the backlinks to those top ten sites,
how many of their backlinks are using anchor text for YOUR keyword you are targeting

Example you are targeting blue widgets
You find site number one has 1000 backlinks to page
how many of those backlinks have anchor text Blue Widgets?
What is the PR of those Blue Widget Anchor Text Backlinks?

At what position are the PR4 pages? Those will be a lot more difficult to out rank. What you got to do is look at each page in the top 10 and decide which of those you are able to displace...

You need to look at their content - how often do they get new content?
You need to look at their backlink sources - are their backlinks from high pr, relevant pages as well? That means your backlinks will need to be better...
Also you may want to have a look at how old the domains are - if they are all 10 year old authority sites with hundreds of pages of content - you are going to have a really difficult time outranking them.
