I thinks the adword tool is the best because it is the one from where all these keywords originate..and thus for best results I believe google only..

  • Google is no longer making it easy to use their information if you are a third party so the more popular tools have to pull from other places... and the information has limited value.

The free Keyword tool from SEOBOOK (requires firefox) isn't too bad. It pulls from free WordTracker though.

Since we do keyword research for our search engine marketing, then it is very rightful to use the keyword tool that Google offers.

There're no 100% accurate tool, even though Google adwords is not always right, but should be the most accurate. However it's awful in terms of suggestions of the keywords. So the reasonable solution will be the combo of different tools. One - which provides a huge list of keywords, and second- of course google adwords, to get information about these keywords. For a firsy tool I can suggest semrush or spy fu, but I use semrush because it's cheaper.

The best of the lot is the Google Adwords program. It is free and also enables you to know about the competition and the CPC.
There are other ones other than the one mentioned here. They include the Wordtracker program and others. I prefer the Google one anyday over the others.
