Hi

You have a client who wants SEO, you have done all the reports etc and have quoted them a price and time scale.

How do you respond when the client says this?

Can you gurantee me number 1 position if i go with you?

I say " No seo company can gurantee number 1 position and i would be wary of any seo company that says they can, but if you look at our previous clients and their positions in google for the keywords they targeted you will see they are all doing well

Any advice welcomed

Tell them "Yes, I can deliver the #1 position in the SERPs, as soon as they write the $100 billion check to buy Google"

Sounds like the client has been reading to many seo spam emails, lol, they always guarantee #1 SERP position.

I think that sounds great. It's professional and to the point. Maybe you could show a before and after comparison of some of your other clients, and have some testimonials as well.

Tell them: NO. Guaranteeing the #1 position for any particular keywords is like predicting 9/11 or an earthquake. Its just not possible but I can guarantee I will do everything in my power which is better then any other SEO company.

I think that is the perfect answer. I especially like the "be wary of any seo company that says they can"

If they asked you once and you told them this and it was fine, I'd say go ahead with the client.

However, if they keep bringing it up, I'd tell them to go ahead and try one of those other companies and see how much that costs you.

Some times it is the best thing for you to just let the client go rather than be struggling with them all the time because of their unrealistic expectations.

    1) I think this is not nice if you first start the word with "No". If I am your customer, I would think: So why should I engage your service? This is the norm that customers will pay for "Yes", "I guarantee", "I ensure", etc, those positive words, isn't it?

    2) Customer will do the comparison themselves, they are sure will compare you and other SEO company. But, in your statement, do not raise the comparison with your competitors. This shows that you are comparing yourselves (at least in front of your customers).

I am sure you have already done results of success SEO. Pick the best and highlight it in your statement. With those positive and success words, Law of Attraction will work to you

I'd probably say something along these lines...

"The budget required to guarantee a #1 ranking could be better spent driving more keywords up the SERPs. Stay focused on your traffic and ROI, and try not to worry about the actual rankings so much. You'll make more money and sleep better at night."

Then I'd sell them more SEO for more keywords...

"I am not focused on getting you a number one ranking for a single keyword, but on building you a keyword portfolio which will give you added traffic and sales. I can not guarantee a #1 listing any more than you can guarantee you can be first to the next stoplight before checking if there are traffic jams, Corvettes, or an Ambulance on the road today. We always give it our best shot, but are more interested in making sure your traffic and business grows than just a #1 spot for a single keyword. Let's talk a little bit more about ideas on how to grow your business and make you some money."

    Hy.

Your answer was good and professional.

I would also tell that client a story that I lived a long time a go.

I was looking on the web for a service that can list my website in DMoz, after I failed. I found some services, all with money back guarantee, but none of them inspire me so I let it down.

After a few month I personally met a guy that provide this service, and from curiosity I ask him how he do this?
And his tell me that he offer this service (and the price was around 100$- 150$ per site) and if some one accept this he submit the site on DMoz, manually as any other user, and if the site get listed he get the money, if not he give the client the money back.

And if from 10 clients a month if you can list 2 site you get 200$ with 30 min of work for all the 10 clients. So he didn't do something special.

I think those SEO company that guarantee #1 use the same technique.

    Thank you

Well said. SEO is not an exact science which means no guarantee.

Be diplomatic, it means saying no as if you are saying yes. Let them know what seo means, how you can help them but do not break the glass with "It's not possible". If you can give them hope and set right expectations (time required etc) you will be able to pull yourself through.

Show your action plan and how the websites you have worked on are doing on SERP. Build a good communication and then convince them that you are their best option, make an offer or give discount. Selling is a skill you have to be always smart with.
