Is PPC a good traffic source for AdSense ?

In another thread we discussed the problem with Adsense zero'ing out clicks from tier 2 ppc-networks send to affiliate pages with also adsense on it. It raises the question, should traffic highly targeted (i.e. ppc keyword "green apples" to a content about green apples) via ppc-network (say miva, looksmart, adhere, searchfeed etc.) not be one of the best traffic-sources?

Can anybody say something about PPC traffic on Adsense?

    Hi Narayan,

If im not mistaken, I think adsense has a policy against ppc driven traffic or "paid-traffic." I know many affiliate programs do allow it, and in all honesty you would probably have a better profit margin by doing that.

In my experience AdSense is becoming more difficult to make a good buck on, especially for those new to it. I can see how it would work, and theoretically if you could generate enough traffic you might see a decent eCPM through it all.

Overall, I would think the "paid-traffic" + allowing affiliates would be your best bet - and your not risking anything legally.

    Good luck, whatever you find.

    Cheers,
    Kris

  • I don´t know if Adsense has a policy against Adwords traffic. I see websites with Adsense, advertising with Adwords, quite often.
But advertising with "green apples" for content with "green apples" und "green appels adsense ads" would not make you any profit. If you were selling green apples Adsense ads could be used to lower your Adwords advertising costs.

      Hi Narayan,

I don't think there is any policy against highly targeted traffic from PPC sources. The key is to make sure the traffic is highly targeted.

There was a problem where folks were generating traffic from very low cost keywords to AdSense sites that had very high paying keywords. The problem was that the traffic wasn't well targeted and Google cracked down.

Now if you send highly targeted PPC traffic to your AdSense site you will generally lose money since you are paying more for the traffic than you earn from AdSense. There are rare exceptions to this that you may be able to exploit, but you will need to be very very good at both PPC and AdSense optimization.

No, there is no official policy against PPC traffic (wether it's adwords or other ppc networks) with adsense.

affiliate survivor, right, it would not make any special profit, but in the green apples scenario it should be targeted, which is important for adsense (quality traffic).

Which is the point dburk is making: even though it is a keyword-traffic about green apples, it may still be untargeted traffic. (although you seem to meen other keywords as "red tomatos" sending to "green apples" pages) But to figure out which traffic from which ppc network is targeted or not seems to be impossible if you only have adsense as a messure. I could check my affiliate conversion though.

Anyway, pretty difficult to figure it out ...

I was just setting here thinking about that... I don't know if they have a policy against that or not, but I think it would be darn hard to make a profit from it...

I think you would end up spending more on clicks to your adsense page then what you would be making off the visitors it brings you...

See, there is no guarantee that the visitor will click any links on your page, but there is a 100% guarantee they will click through to your site from adwords.... I don't know sounds risky to me.

    To Your Success,

    Michael Paul

That's totally right. But adsense is only a secondary supplement in this case, primary are the sales on the affiliates. So the idea here is to make some money back from advertising and the main part on targeted affiliate sales. In this scenario adsense still produced a lot of 0,00 clicks, what I already posted in the thread "Discussion: adsense lowering CPC on traffic spieks / invalid clicks". Hence the question about ppc-traffic on adsense.

I guess another question would be...are you sure you want to risk losing your AdSense acct over this method?

If you search the forums you will see plenty of people talk about losing their AdSense acct over this in the past few years. Not saying that it will happen to you, and I hope is doesn't, but it is a real risk.

Is that so? I didn't know that. If that's true, then the obvious answer to the thread-question is "no" and I should remove adsense from the landingpages.

From an advertisers point of view though, I would like to see someone driving targeted ppc-traffic to my ad appearing on the content network.
