Private Blog Network Question

I don't want to start a flame war. I know this is hotly debated topic. But hopefully the guys that know what's up (most of us know who you are) can give me a straight answer.

I have 32 .info domains that I got free for registering the .org. They're just sitting around collecting dust.

I am considering a small private network for link building. My question is, is 32 domains enough to get started considering they are all PR N/A?

I have roughly 100 sites (will be trying to rank for about 1500 - 2500 keywords) across a similar number of pages.

Seems like I'll be leaving a pretty noticeable footprint if I use the 32 domains to link to these 100 sites.

I'd be trying to build up the PR of the .info sites along the way.

Anyway, just wanted to get some thoughts.

    You could have 3200 PR n/a and 0 .info domains and it wouldn't carry much ranking power, much less only 32 of them.

    A few hundred of them could give you a little bit of a boost, but only for the weakest of keywords.

    And you are right, that is a huge footprint you would be leaving. Especially if you are hosting them all under the same C-class IP, with no whois privacy, and they are all with the same registrar.

    You also need to remember that PR 0 sites do not get crawled that often. If you are blasting tons of posts to these sites, very few of them are going to end up indexed. The posts are going to quickly roll back to page 10 before they ever get found.

    Now if you take time to build some really solid links to these sites so that they end up with some PR of their own, you could be looking at a nice little network of your own.

      I don't have these hosted yet, and would get SEO hosting if I do it.

      The plan would be to work on boosting the PR. I guess I'm just wondering if it's even worth bothering with only 32 sites and trying to rank 1500ish pages. Just doesn't seem like it to me but I don't really have anything else to do with these domains, so figured I'd throw it out there.

        If you start boosting them up to PR 2's and 3's, you'll be surprised what just 32 sites can get you. As PR n/a's and 0's, they are worth about as much as you paid for them.

          Is there any risk that the 32 sites will link to the 100 sites leaving what seems to be a pretty easy to find foot print because all of these sites have adsense on them?

          I'll do whatever is necessary from a hosting standpoint, but it still seems like it would be very obvious that this is link farm.

          Guess I could always sell some links to link to more sites though...

            I definitely would not setup all 32 sites linking to the the same 100 sites. I also wouldn't put anywhere near 100 outgoing backlinks on each domain. Even for sites with PR, that is bleeding out a lot of the ranking power, but for sites with no PR, you will see even less benefit.

              You can put them into the mix but I would put them in with some other .com .org and .net. Not because I don't think .infos with Pr have the same strength but because there are ways of leveraging links that have to do with people's perceived value of your website and domain.

              Also because honestly if you are worried about footprints what could be a greater foot print that having all .infos when and if a manual review were to happen? Netfirms has an almost perpetual sale on domains. with the right coupon I can get .coms .nets and .orgs for about $5 with privacy.
              SO put together with some .coms etc I would think with PR they would have some umph but then how long will it take you to build their PR and how much are you going to have to put into it? there are cases where buying aged domains with PR just works out as very efficient way of getting things going.

    I have to think that even 32 sites will be of some benefit. Especially if you get them some PR by back linking them. If you can get them all a unique IP address, then they should be good for your sites to put links on them.

    It will be a fair amount of work, but once it is done it should have some benefit for you.
